Hello everyone! Do any of you people know if it would be possible to do window sill dormancy with VFT's? I would like to set up a dormancy shelf on my windowsill. Thanks, Devon Blomquist

It can be done but the fridge mode (see the appropriate thread) is the best for inside.

All of my VFTs survived in the window sill. On the nights that it got below freezing, I brought them in. Otherwise, they stayed out all winter long.
It's funny, but I've actually kept them indoors more in the spring to get the temp up so they come out of dormancy earlier and get a longer growing season.

I had phoned California Carnivores a few years back and asked that same question. The answer I had gotten then was, yes a vft can be given a window sill dormancy, if it is a north facing window in a cool room.

I tried it this year and had good success with with well-established plants. I got a couple from Kheens in November and I think they had been frozen in shipping, They didn't make it, but the ones I got at Loblaws and Home depot went straight onto the windowsill, and they were fine.

I've done it in a south window, between the 2 windows- enough heat bleeds out to keep them from getting too cold, and photoperiod seems to be more important than any specific temperature range. Only thing to watch for is fungus and mold, and don't let them stay too wet And it's NICE that the dormancy time is still a ways away WHEW I loves me some summer
