The mantis comes as and egg casing. It can have up to a couple hundred eggs in it! They are cute when they are little tiny things! Wouldn't keep em around your dews though!

Here is a Colasantis fly trap (red) and one that a friend got me from a box store. The green one has been there long enough to start showing some red by now, so I guess that it is an all green type. Are there different versions that are all green?

Judging by the reddening of your sphagnum, your light levels are very good. I can see a flower stalk growing from the green vft. It would be interesting to see the different amount of variety that is produced from the seed. Any vft seed I have ever germinated, showed a tremendous amount of plant variation.

Yes that is a flower stalk ( it is out the top of the 12 inch terrarium ) and yes I am trying for some seed. The first flower should open in about 4 days from now.
I have 5 13W fluorescent bulbs in this small terrarium. ;D

What method are you going to use to pollinate your flowers? I'm thinkin of letting one of them flower this year and I'm curious to know how your going to achieve this.

I understand that the pollen is ready 3 days before the flower is ready to be pollinated. So I was going to save some polen on a brush and spread it on each flower. I have not done this with fly traps but I have done it with Sars. Any advice would be accepted

Here's some recommendations from dvg in the thread "Loblaws" Hal, you can self vfts. As tael has stated, wait two or three days for the stigma to become hairier. If you look at the stigmas when the flower first opens, they will be smooth. After a few days they will become fuzzy. Just use an old watercolor brush or your finger(do you finger paint? ), and gently brush back and forth across the flower face. Attempt to pollinate it two or three times, a day, if possible, to get a good seed set. I also have a rescued vft that's putting up a stalk. I figured I'd watch it grow and check out the flowers and try to get some seed,

My Dionaea flower has opened, and here is what the stigma looks like on the first day. And this is on the second day ( today). and the flower. I tried pollinating it today. We will see what we get later.
