i've sent off the application for import permit this morning to Inspections Canada.
No new species will be accepted, as the import permit had to list off all species we had anticipated. Basically, I've included most of the highland Neps on our order over here...and if you want the same species that we indicated, then you've lucked out. What we'll do is to split the fees evenly - regardless of the amount of plants ordered (ie. cost for one to ten plants) is the same. As BE stated, it's based on volume of the container, not weight.
The cost per person will be:
1. cost of your plants converted into CDN$ plus
2. phytosanitary certificate plus
3. CDN Import permit plus
4. Borneo Exotics' CITES I/II Export permits plus
5. DHL shipping from Sri Lanka to (either Victoria or Vancouver) plus
6. then we have to pay someone to repackage the plants to
7. further destinations in Ontario and Quebec. (We'd prefer to have one designated person in each province to tbe the point person- to save on costs, as UPS charges between $23 to $40 per 2 lb box from BC to central Canada.
So there you have it. It will be looking at around $100+ per person (for shipping and re-packaging) in addition to your order. If you're still interested, PM me and I will get you the total cost breakdown. So that you're not bearing all the risk, I will send out the order this Friday, and let you follow the plants arrival in Canada...ie. apply the same procedure as BE... a 10% down upon commitment, then the balance when it gets shipped out (I will give you the DHL tracking number for you all to follow along with us here on the westcoast).
I'm anticipating for this to complete in mid to late May 2006 (after shipping and quarantine). In the meantime, please co-ordinate who wants to be the point person for re-distribution in your respective province to save on costs for the re-shipping leg of this effort.
