Hi Matt, thanks for dropping in and posting your pics. Very nice. It's amazing what your vft's were able to come up with this summer. Mine caught the odd fly, but mostly feasted on harvestmen or as they are commonly called around here...daddy long legs spiders. I guess their low slung abdomens being carried or dragged across the trigger hairs of the traps wasn't giving these creatures much chance of escape. At times all traps on some plants were full of these unfortunate souls.

It's weird to come out and see them with their legs sticking out and wiggling around. I think the wasps were the most frequently caught insects though. They come in to drink the water to use to make their paper nests. I guess they wander into the traps from time to time. Not sure if you saw this thread, but I like the photo: www.flytrapcare.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=12That guy lived for a couple of days like that before he finally gave it up.

Matt, I'm surprised that your trap was able to hold onto that hornet. Those insects are very strong and were always able to escape my indoor vft's. My outdoor vft's didn't catch any hornets or wasps this year that I am aware. Keep up the good work with your site.

Most of my plants don't produce traps big enough to even hold them completely. I'll definitely keep up the good work on the site. I just ordered a video camera (don't actually have it yet) and I am hoping to put up some instructional videos on the site as well. You should join the forum there! It's a small group of people right now, but it's growing. It's always nice to have more feedback on questions and photos! Also, with an account, you can blog about your plants too!

Nice for you to join us Matt. Nice Flytraps you have and veyr nice website. You are definitely one of the heroes of this hobby. Hah, thanks hackerberry! I am totally addicted to Dionaea. I love my other CPs as well, but I get an immense amount of pleasure from growing VFTs. So, I decided to use what I know (I'm a web programmer) to create something to help spread my sickness. I really appreciate your feedback on the website. Though the site is still in its infancy, it is starting to grow a bit. I'm hoping to build a strong community of CP growers (focused on Dionaea, of course). I would love to have more people posting blogs and on the forum, perhaps even writing more articles and FAQs and stuff. I can grant any user on the site privileges to publish articles and by default, everyone can upload photos and write a blog. Hopefully I can get some other addicts on the site like me to help it grow more and collect more knowledge and information about Dionaea and then branch out into other CPs. I'm sure it will happen eventually. Patience is key.

Phew! After making a batch of banana ice cream, and accidently adding water to it and waking up to a solid block of banana ice, why didn't I listen to you Alton Brown?
Anyway, there is another batch of chocolate ice cream in the fridge, which I have just finished, AND I have too say your VFTS are beautiful, those hybrids are pretty cool, nut i'm a purist, meaning I like the original VFT Trap. Anyways great job.
