This will be my first real year for flowers, I once had a lone rubra flower from seed, but that was it. I'm hoping for a good show. Any ideas what the flowering order is anyone, flavas are looking to be first. Sib

I've began to see clearly that I will have to "save a bunch of pollen if I'm going to do any of the crosses I would like. what is the easiest way to do it? snip the anthers off just before they open? swab with a q-tip and keep that? Thanks Sib

You guys are lucky to have growth and buds, etc. ... I just removed a section of pine needles off of my bog. There is no growth yet, although everything looks to be in decent shape. Believe it or not, there were a couple of spots in the middle (where the needles were thickest) that was still a tad frozen.

Nice! I keep wondering if mine actually made it through the winter. They still have some color at the base of the leaves and my purps still have all their red color but nothing seems to be happening to them yet. I guess it would serve me right for leaving em all uncovered over the winter. I will keep checking them daily to see any progress!

mine aren't doing much, just the flavas are showing a bud, nowhere near as advanced as jays or ricks! Sib

I've been slowly getting the pine mulch off of my bog and trimming the dead crap back... my flavas were budding right under the pine mulch. I have one flava (an all-green maxima) that must have twenty growth crowns - that oughtta make for a good show this spring.

My Purps buds have grown about an Inch. This plant has an interesting history. When we were up at Dorcas bay one year, we saw a "dead" purp on the side of the gravel lane way. Some one had tried to pick the flower, and had pulled the plant right out of the ground. Then when the parent saw it they just threw it on the side of the road. When I saw it I thought about replanting it but it was so far gone that I thought that its only hope was to baby it along. I first put it in a bag with water and then brought it home. Well it did survive but just. the next summer it grew about 4 pitchers and no flowers. then 1 flower on year 2 and 3 flowers last year and now it has 5 buds starting up. It looks like i might be able to divide it next spring,

I finally finished getting the pine needles off of my bog and all looks good. I forgot just how tiny my bog now looks in comparison to seeing Syble's monster This year will (hopefully) see all of the plants moved into the new bog that I am digging out in a new location. Keep your fingers crossed. Doug: Nicely done, sir. Purpman: I have had my bog open with active growth when the temps dropped below freezing.. they didn't bat an eyelash. Rug: As long as the growth crown is firm and not brownish, you'll be okay.
