I got in a late batch of sarracenia seed. I typically do all my sarracenia seed stratifying outside (the 2 times i tried in the fridge it didn't work and/or moulded over) but am wondering if we still have enough time to have it work and get some sprouting? maybe make my bottles up and throw them in the freezer for a week? or altranate from freezer to fride every other day for a week then throw them outside? Thanks Sib ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

I find the fridge is fine. I usually soak them in 250 ppm GA3 for a couple of days, too. Also I put a little bit of Tween 20 when they're in the fridge to keep them wetted.

you lost me at the Tween 20 ? every time i tried them in the fridge they died on me so i'm reluctant to now :S but I'm also wanting to get a jump on them so don't really want to have to wait till this fall lolha sib ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

you need at lest 2 months of cool moist strat , freezing don't do a thing for a week;)

yeah i figured that, but isn't a big part of the stratification the freeze thaw cycle that breaks the seed coat? or is that not as big of a deal with sarracenia as it is with many tree seeds? More of an internal dormancy bit? Whats my best course of action then? Thanks sib ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

noop just a good 3 month cool moist strat, i start seed i breed in the fall every year. Sprouts by mid December , Well with fresh seed, borytris isn't usually a problem , old stuff molds out quick. plant the seed in chopped LFS (thats moist) seal in a zip lock bag and stick in your frig , root cellar, just a cool place out side this time of year . All of the seed i got off you in the late fall got a 3 month cool moist strat (no freeze) 99% germination . No damp off used or any chemicals.. You still have time if your quick about it . Suppose to be a cool spring this year.
