Just wondering if sarrs self pollenate or do you need to cross pollenate. If so is there a male and female plant. I read the one book I have and I am a bit confused as to exactly what it says. I have a S. Purp. that flytrap sent me that is sending up a flower stalk and have no others doing the same. So I'm wondering if I will be able to get any seeds from it.

Try pollinating it and see what happens.

They will self pollenate , the flowers have both female and male reproductive parts .

yup... easiest way is to stick your pinky into the upside down umbrella (stigma) and collect the pollen and touch the tip ends of the umbrella... there are 5 points to apply the pollen to. Do it a few times over the course of a week to ensure that you've got pollen on the stigma.
seeds will arrive in about 5 months.

Wow it really takes a long time huh. They will be ok after dormancy? Do I leave the stalk on the plant till I'm ready to collect the seeds or can it be cut off prior to dormancy.

Probably the pod should be allowed to dry out while on the plant.

Yes wait for the pod to turn a golden colour it will spilt open on its own, but if your in to tissue culture its best to collect the pods before they spilt open so the seeds don't get contaminated by bacteria , ether way store the seeds in the freezer till your ready to plant

I'm not sure what this is all about ... and from what I have gleaned, RUG has never offended anyone on this forum.
I've also had the pleasure of trading with RUG, and found him to be a trustworthy and honourable person.

This is all just a bit silly. I may have implied that Jay has some sort of demonic, unnatural knowledge of Sarr's or that Mabudon lets his Heli's dry out but that is about the worst "flaming" I have seen on this forum. And as I've mentioned, it's just because I'm jealous of their plants.
Don't worry Rug, the CP fairy should be delivering something next week to improve your spirits.

LOL Thnx guys. This all started when he wanted some plants from me and had sent me a few PM's. I Messaged him back saying ok and gave him some advise to earn ppl's trust before going all gung ho. I told him about the fraud- Jesse I think his name was and that he ripped a bunch of ppl off, Never once said he was any of that, but he needed to earn trust. Apparetly he didn't take to kindly to that! ;D

Sorry , i should of been more clear as to state that they can be selfed by human intervention and produce viable seed . not sterile seed .

I guess I can just chime in quickly here and mention that some Sarracenia are sterile. The all green venosa burkii f. lueteola is self sterile, as is the particular all green leuco clone I have. however, you can pollinate them with other pollen and they will produce seed.
