have you been top watering? What you describe is common when the soil forms a crust. I don't know how densly you have them sown, but if you scratch the soil some with say a tooth pick, that may solve it for you. Sib

Well, Its bottom watered and I only sow 2 seeds per 1x1" seed cells. I dont really see a "crust"

Not sure if anyone else has anything to add, but if crusting isn't your problem, try increasing the humidity, put a dome over it. Sib

I'm thinking your problem is something else then, I'd be inclined to think it's a bacterial or fungal problem, have you treated with anything? Sib

hmmm one bit of advice, I would figure this out before you attempt the next batch.. what you describe sounds a bit like damp-off (where the "top" of the plant looks okay but gets severed from the roots by what looks like a "kink" in the stem) One suggestion- try sowing seeds in a a deep-ish pot, maybe 5-8 inch, about 1 inch apart- don't separate them til they get a bit bigger, say an inch or 2 high Something I havent tried for germination but have been using in established plants- maybe chop up some pine needles into little bits (5 mm/ 1/8 inch or so) and mix that into your soil, keeps it acidic and a bit looser to aid in root development... Hope you figure out the problem, either way

if you haven't treated with anything, damp off is likely your culprate, use no damp, and do if pre-emptive. Sib
