Just to follow up, they didn't make it... ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) No more S. venosa for me. Though on my windowsill the S. "Scarlet Belle" didn't do much better for some reason, just put up a few leaves this year. Bad year for me with Sarrs. Harry

Hi going on my second year wintering my S. purpurea outside, just had 3 days of -30 and two weeks of around -20, I use burlap to cover them and there is a good snow cover. I hope they survive lone winter this year in Prince George BC they did great last year.

I've kept S. purp venosa outside in my bog, which gets covered by about 12" of pine needles when winter approaches. I find that this species is a bit wimpy with regard to cold tolerance here. I usually lose the main growth crown and new growth comes out the sides.
Still, I have kept these things for several years now outdoors.
