I went out to Fort Langley today ... and drove through all four seasons of weather condition - heavy rain, sun, hail and wicked winds on the way there. It was a heck of a long drive, but was worth it.
The reason for my trek was to visit a great nursery that I've done quite a bit of business with - "the Orchid Shop". They sell all sorts of neat stuff catered to Orchid and CP growers... now they're getting into the Dart frog business too.
While there, I picked up a real nice piece of cork trunk bark ... approx. 24" tall and 12" wide, real nice and textured with moss growing on it. This bark cost me less than $15. I also picked up a pile of clear plastic orchid pots ... the clear design allows you to view into the growing media (and thus the roots)... but more important, it has a real smart design for the pot drainage that allows "breathing" near the middle of a potted root ball due to it's clever center extension of the pot bottom and it's drain holes.
I also got some B12 solution (eg. Canadian brand of superthrive at a quarter of the cost).
But more important to all of us terrarium set up types, is their real cool lighting system... they have full spectrum fluorescent lights that are only the diameter of your pinky finger. These amazing lights can be "daisy chained" end to end. I am now preparing a large terrarium to house my frogs and small neps using the cork trunk bark and lights.
The proprietors are really helpful and friendly... and they will also be stocking some CPs, dartfrogs and moss. Here's their website: www.theorchidshop.ca/ all their stuff is on it.
I'll upload some pics of my visit ... later... gotta play with my new aquistions first .
