Flag stone is sedimentary, could cause pH trouble.

Maybe Lava Rock or somethin like that??
I am not too sure, but it IS igneous, and nice and porous so moss would grow prety good on it, plus it can be had for cheap- would that be okay??

ANother question regarding the substrate guys. Perlite looks kinda sore on the eyes .. I was initially planning on making the peat + perlite mix + a top layer of just peat to make it look nice. But how is silica sand in comparision? I mean from my little experience so far...peat + perlite is THE MIX for the CP's I tried. However, many experienced ppl use silica sand as well.

Silica sand is fantastic. Its white but you don't see that when mixed with peat. An alternative to perlite is old fashioned vermiculite, much darker in colour.

Lavarock is good, I use it for my aquarium plants, for my pings, cephs and heliamphora. It's igneous so it won't alter pH or leach any minerals.

Aquarium stores are best for that kind of stuff. You're probably better off going to a small local aquarium store as the prices are often better.

I could drop off a sack of silica sand on my way to Bancroft. Shipping would be too expensive.

I get mine from L St Amand Enterprises Inc, 130 Bunting, St. Catharines. They have a website at www.lstamand.yp.ca or you could call 905-682-1132 for information. You might be able to find out from them how to track a more local supplier.

hmmm......thanks brian!! I will check it out. I am also trying to figure out the right aquarium gravel for the tank. Trust me, this new design means NOT TOO MANY CP's in teh tank....but, it will mean "LANDSCAPE" baby!! Iam planning on a waterfall and so on.....IN THAT SMALL SPACE. Is it okay to get any aquarium gravel for the bottom-most sediment layer?? AND .. what is the easiest way to seal off a section ?? I mean like this:: GOAL: Seperate the CP media from the "WATER reservoir" which contains the small pump. Plants compatibility! Well of course CP's. 50:50 peat and perlite will go in there. ... epipphytes on driftwood are plans and LOTS....I mean LOTS AND LOTS OF MOSS!!
