Amazing plants and high tech gadgetry. Almost everybody I know thinks I'm weird to have strange plants growing in my house. This is definitely the forum for me.

Hay! Its going to go down to -10 tonight in halifax so I'll try to post some pictures of my terrarium with below freezing internal temperatures tonight, -10 isn't cold enough to cause frost in the soil though , but it should show around 0 inside, later in the winter I'll get some pics of it when its like - 20 out, sould be about -10 or so inside the tank then ;D

P.S. the internal duct fans are thromostaticly controled to keep from freezing the tank solid all the time, so I can set it to whatever temp I want, the thermostat regulates the temp by switching certain fans on and off depending on the tank ambient air temp, I usuall leave at 0 degrees, but turn it down for fun now and again to see the frost form in the soil, and to simulate a cold snap

the flourescent lights look really bright there too for some reason, it doesn't look near that bright in person, must be the camera, but it normaly looks like that in the summer with the HPS lights on with them

P.S. my crappy webcam couldn't read the temperature in the tank the other day because it sucks and can't see clearly enough, so I am going to wait till later in the winter, when its really cold, and get my buddy back to take some quality shots of the tanks frosty environment

wow...phil....your setup is simply unbelievable. You really need to help me get a good lighting setup for my terrarium. And since I don't want to burden my parents with a hefty power bill. I hope the lights don't leech too much power without compromising on quality light for the plants.

Since the terrarium isn't double glazed, doesn't it cool the room significantly? I would think it would act as a refridgerator.

only slightly, the glass is pritty thick, but some times if its really cold out and the door is shut, the room is only slightly cooler then the rest of the house, but not enough to really notice
