Hello all. I too am a newbie. I have recently taken an interest in CP's within the last 2 years. So far I'm having a blast. I'm not very experienced at all but hopefully I can gain some knowledge here. One big question I have is where exactly can I find places to purchase CP's. We only have one place that I know of in Essex county, but they only have one type of VFT and pitcher plant (Nepenthes ventricosa). I have a few of these and have had them for a couple years. I have been on line but cant find anywhere in Canada to get them. I really would like a Nepenthes Rajah and a Nepenthes Rafflesiana. If anyone could give me some info. that would be much appreciated.
Thnx Rug

Greetings, Rug! Commercial sources of CPs in a "brick and mortar" sense are few and FAAAAR between You will have a much beter time with online purchases (both sources sdeering names are excellent in their respective strong-suits) and trades with members Hopefully we can help you make your collection into what you want it to be, I can't stress enough how great our members here are, so don't be shy, we have all been through our own learning experience and asking questions is the best way to get perspective on stuff Thanks for introducing yourself!

Keehns takes paypal for sure, I'd imagine Hawaiian Botanicals does too. Often seeds will be offered for SASE, or Self Addressed Stamped Envelope, and sometimes actual plants for shipping
Check the trading Post for offers, lots of the more common CPs are rather prolific in their growth habit

hey dude, welcome to the OCPS. I got my VFT's and capensis from keehns carnivores. He has a nice healthy selection of plants available which are definately hardy and well grown. Along with that, as the other dudes here mentioned, we have a few trades on the forum itself. Hang around and you can grab some nice flora. cheers, vraev

Nice! Thnx so much all! I am very new to growing any plants actually, but I really wanna learn. I cant say how excited I am about being a member here and everyone is in Canada! I recently bought 100 vft seeds and 50 Sarracenia purpurea. Through a family emergency with the owners of the place I bought from, I got 250 vft and 70 Sarracenia purpurea seeds. Because they never emailled me for over a week after my purchase. I am currently stratifying the sarr's (about 30 I think) and have also planted 36 vft seeds in Live Spaganum moss. This is my first attempt "ever" to grow a cp from seed. Hopefully I'm doing it right. I have them in a starterkit pot with a clear plastic lid, its very damnp as the lid is constatly fogged up. Any advise would be great. I am really more interested in Neps. I may have a connection with Colasantis ( a green house in Essex county) to order plants through a commercial grower. He is currently trying to find a rajah and a rafflesiana. Hopefully it pans out!!! I'll let everyone know, as this may be good for him too!

first thing: VFT's don't bother too much with humidity. As long as its like 50 - 60 its fine for them. Secondly, I had pretty good success with VFT seeds in "peatmoss + perlite 60/40" mix. It should take a month and a half to see small shoots pop up. Remember to use nice "full spectrum" lights. VFTs love the light. Covering it only filters away a lot of light. I can't really advice you with sarrs as I have no experience with them apart from a 5 out of 20 success rate in germination. The others would be more helpful in this regard . But from what I know, they are similar and require similar light, soil and water. Remember: 1) Nice full spectrum lighting ( 30 w like 6 - 10 inches over the plant) (as long as it doesn't overheat the soil) 2) Distilled water or Reverse osmosis water or Clean rain water 3) patience. You will be growing small baby Cp's in no time. (1 month is nothing compared to other hard species.
