I put it here, since it's a little like a 'add-on' to every introduction... I was inspired by Syble post, which I found quite interesting... Hmm, I'm 25 years old, technician in applied ecology, and I've done a bit of biology (B.Sc) but I've redirected myself in agronomy (B.Sc) 2 years ago, at Laval University. I am thinking about a Master degree after that, ideally in Peatland ecology (at PERG/GRET) or horticulture (CRH). Time will tell. Still one year to go before being graduate, I begin to be a bit impatient to have a 'permanent' job... Debt are accumulating fast! As for plants, I love everything unusual: CP, orchids (Bulbophyllum, Pleurothallids, Paphio), Stapeliads, Amorphophallus (go know why, but a lot of what I name/seems to love for their flowers are real stinkers...!). Due to frequent moving and my current growing conditions, I'm more into Pinguicula these days, and hope to enlarge my epiphytic Utric list. But anyway, they are all a pain to move to anothers appartment, whatever the genus is I'm quite fond of botany (originally, I would had like to become botanist), macro photography, Dali paintings, music (metal do marvel for a studying rush these days ;D), homebrewing (from grains) and winemaking (anything from grape, stawberry to dandelions and apples) and homemade projects such as in vitro culture, bread making, cheese and such... I love to do things all by myself, so I always have a few project going on... some are done only once, and some are going on for year... but most of the time, I turn kitchen into a whole mess, whatever it is haha. We wish to find a farm after my studies, ideally in the Bas Saint-Laurent area, a very rural part of Quebec province, and are thinking about starting a goat farm... But this is mostly a dream for the moment

LOL, Glad to have been your muse for such an interesting topic! You are doing everything I wanted but couldn't! I have graduated a horticulture program, and am only 22 so I have time to go back and further I suppose? the 2 areas that interested me were horticulture/botany and biology specifically genetics... One of those things about slacking off in highschool... Although I get funny looks for saying I work in a marble orchard, I got even stranger looks phasing it other ways! Ah goats, they are such fun and frustrating animals, I've had them for 6 years? All nubian, Only recently did I part with them, very sad to do it also... But they are special animals, not at all dumb like people think, quite the opposite actually, problem solving smart. It can be quite interesting to keep them in their pens. Nice to know a bit more about you, Thanks, Sib

Bioecology? Isn't this the new program given in La Pocatiere?

Looks like Tom, flytrap, and myself have some paralleling fields of study. I majored in Environmental Science & Economics, minoring in Math. I have been in and out of envrionmental consulting firms and laboratories and am currently working for Home Depot.

Jim Maybe I should ship you over a decent eggroll. That's one of the best tagline I've seen in ages. The eggroll will have to be the dried sugary type ...because fresh ones will get confiscated by USDA. What if I find a nice recipe for it instead?

Environmental chemistry. Did chemistry at McMaster, worked for an environmental testing lab 15 years, then when they went under started my own business. That's why my pickup is constantly covered in mud, Maudobon - offroading in landfills, quarries and fields to get to my sites.

flytrap: LOL! It will probably need CITES as well! Brian: Welcome to OCPS! Yet another environmental type! What department were you with - Organics, Metals, Wet Chem?

quote: >What are you doing in life?<
Waisting life, nothing - unwillingly. Twice older than most of the posted, MS education in Physiology in different country, worked in biomedical research, no qualified work here.
Had most of the interests that Tom has, including work, in-deph photography, music (chello) and vinemaking. Now grow orchids (mostly Oncidium alliance, one Paph), nano-reefing a little recently, growing seedlings of Sarrs, trying to develop own micro-business.
No more dreams (including farm. Yes, me too).

Ellen, what fish and invertebrates do you have? I used to work for a tropical fish wholesaler (Niagara Aquarium) and we used to get people coming in from St. Catharines, Ft. Erie, and Hamilton. Anyways, I was in charge of taking care of the salt department. We didn't have anything more sophisticated than one of those inter-connected systems for the fish and individual tanks for the corals, shrimp, stars, sponges, and crabs.

I did all departments when it was a tiny lab, briefly supervised wet chem when they expanded then ended up as QA/QC and field co-ordinator before they went under. Jimscott, did you know Bernie Blondin? He was with the Niagara Aquarium Society.

I'm sorry, I do not know him. In 3 labs in PA & NY, I did a bit od Sample Custody, Organics Prep, Metals Prep, Mercury Prep & Analysis, and a smattering of things that went under Wet or General Chemistry. Sorry to here it went under. The environmental industry, in general was strong in the late 80's through early-mid 90's. Then much of the work dried up and there wasn't enough to replace - thus, layoffs.

LOL! don't feel bad... of the ones here whose ages I happen to be aware of; such as, Tom, Syble, sszvein & anmbia - I can realistically be their father. Scary! But you can do as I do - claim to perpetually be 18.

Jim... I think, you and I are around the same vintage. I'm perpetually at 12...the trick is not to feel old, and not get bogged down with the BS of the world around you. Love that sunshine...and love that rain
