This is all you need to know: take nothing but pictures of plants growing in the ground, don't accept plant material from the wild and don't import anything without asking the CRA and following their advice.

Ya sorry that is a little vague, I could write a small book on the laws surround CP's. What Lloyd said sums it up pretty good but I think he meant CFIA not CRA.
To reiterate, owning CP's (all the species) in Canada is perfectly legal but collecting and importing from other countries requires paperwork and would be illegal to do it without the proper steps. This is for Canada, in other countries there are all sorts of other laws to follow.
If you have a specific question regarding certain laws or import procedures I would happy to answer them.
