This is my little no-ID ping collection. I think the one that's blooming looks like it could be agnata? Just trying to figure out how to post pics...hopefully this works.

Nice Mexi-ping setup in...is that an apothecary jar of some type? And yes, your flowering Ping looks very much to me like a P. agnataKeep up the great work and thanks for sharing your picture here. dvg

Thank you so much, that means a lot to me, coming from you! I just found that jar at Winners, I'm not sure what it's supposed to be for but I thought my ping's would be happy living in it! I think the other three Ping's are all the same, I'm hoping they will bloom for me so I can sort of ID them. I'm suspecting maybe moranensis?

Ooo this is a lovely set-up! Are there many types of pings that will tolerate growing on a rock like this? Is there a specific type of rock to use? Where are their roots? Sorry for all the questions, I just love this presentation.

Sorry for all the questions, I just love this presentation. Thank you Sarah! I am still very new to growing pings, so am still experimenting myself. I am growing four different types on rocks, I will have to see how they do over time. So far, so good. The roots are just growing on top of the rocks. I'm still trying to figure out how often to water them, but the rocks are sitting in a little water. I've used Lava rock and Lace rock. The Lava seems to absorb water better but the Lace rock is prettier.

Nice set up I'm curious about the little orchid in the back. Is that a Maxillaria of sorts ?

Just a little update. I went camping for three weeks this summer and these ping's on rocks looked very sad when I got home. They had lost all their roots, and the leaves looked like they had rolled over the rocks numerous times. My plant-sitter tried hard but maybe fussed too much over them? Anyways I have them all potted in pots now (easier to give them TLC that way) and they have perked up nicely. For now it's just much easier keeping them in the pots, just not as pretty.

Give them a bit more light to see their awesome colors and shape.

Yes, you're right they needed more light, I have moved them to a much brighter location since that picture and they look so much better!! Except for my agnata that took the worst beating while I was away, but it's coming around.

Lovely job setting up your community garden!
I have grown pings in coconut and peat in the past to control moss flies, but never on porous rocks in a terrarium.
A couple of questions from a newbie who wants to emulate your beautiful little garden (so I dont have to hide my babies in a grow room!).
Do you ever let your pings dry out (not as much as your plant ditter) or do you maintain consistent watering?
Also, do you water and let the rocks obsorb the h20 or do you mist the plants?
Lastly, any tips for triggering blooming under these conditions?
Thanks!

Thank you! I do miss having them on rocks, I really loved the way it looked, and will probably try this set up again in the future. Right now they are still recouperating from my absence. At least it was nice to be missed, lol. They were doing great until I went away so to answer a couple of your questions... I had them sitting in about a quarter inch of water and found that the lava rock absorbed water better than the lace rock. So I would spritz the rocks (not the plants) when it looked like they were drying out. I think my plant-sitter actually overwatered them, and the roots rotted. If you can keep them on a sunny windowsill or close to lights they should have nicer leaves and bloom for you too. Hope that helps!
