Please pick the name you feel we should change our name to. If there is a close tie between two we will vote again with just those two options. If one of the names that has multiple options is chosen we will vote on which one we will use. Feel free to discuss your case here as nothing is set in stone right now. If you haven't read the original thread please read through it. ocps.proboards.com/thread/7952/forum-name-change

We don't have to but we have several options to change the URL to a new name. There are many pros and cons of this, we'll discuss this next

Anyone that wants to add to the forum name discussion can post here, I closed down the other so people would use this thread and seeing the voting.

Like a few others have stated in the other thread, I have a preference for ''Canadian Carnivorous Plant Society''. Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried to contact the Quebec society? If not I could write/call them to make sure everything is fine with changing for this name.

Thanks for the input!
For me I really wanted to avoid using a name that is assicated with a failed society. If I manage to get a hold of some of the old members, they allow it and it wasn't registered as an official society in the first place. Then I would put it up to a vote and let the community decide.
Do any members know who the old coordinators are?

I know that Labine on this board was associated a while ago. In fact I remember now that around 6-7 years ago, I was also the official ''seed tester'' for the SCAPI, the ''Société canadienne des amateurs de plantes insectivores''. That roughly translates to ''Canadian Society of Aficionados of Insectivorous Plants'' but their English version was indeed ''Canadian Carnivorous Plant Society''. My father also accepted to be the treasurer, but neither of us have ever done any task for this society as there were no news whatsoever after this meeting, this is why I just now remember I was part of it! We pretty much had forgotten about it since then and I became solely involved here instead. So this seems pretty much like a dead society in my view. I do not know if any other members other than me and Labine are present here on the board, perhaps they were but stopped being active? Perhaps write to labine, I see he was online here not long ago so he might have better answers This site was also mainly french speaking and Quebec based, much like this board was mainly for Ontario growers in the beginning (I assume?), so the ''Canadian'' in the title was a bit misleading. Given the activity going on here and the presence of a french speaking section, I personally wouldn't be ashamed of taking the name, this site is clearly the main Canadian forum on these plants.

I guess we have to decide on whether we are naming what this website is, or what the people on it have as a common connection.
If the website is what we are naming then the word forum s/b in the name.
If it is what binds us as a group is the object than I like "Canadian Carnivorous Plant Community" as there is no formal "Society".
I can't figure out how the vote thing works...don't know if I made a recorded vote or not.
Just a thought.

We may not be a formal society but we certainly are an informal one.

That being said, it sounds like the majority wants it to be called a society forum so the community has spoken. It's all good! Its not like we are voting to see if Trump is going to be our president or not. Onward and upward

Well it looks like it was a landslide for the CPSC. I'm currently of our town right now and will organize the next steps when I get back.
