Hi, brand new to this site and growing these fascinating plants. I picked one up at foodland and got all the proper potting materials at homehardware. So far so good for getting the new plant in good soil ,also i have my jug of distilled water all set. Not sure what type of Venus fly trap this might be? I imagine i will be able to learn that on this site. Cheers!

It'll just be a typical plant. It's an odd time for newly bought flytraps as they should be asleep right now.
Supplemental lighting would definitely help through the winter and just make sure it goes dormant next winter.
Hope you can find the information you need!

...welcome to the OCPS. Chances are your store bought typical won't survive through the winter, they don't get proper care at the stores. I bought over 20 of them last year, around the same time and none of them made it. Yours might, none of mine did. Try this, go on eBay, buy some seeds and plant them. If they are good seeds, they should pop within a month and by springtime you should have some cute little babies that you can pamper all summer. Cheers!

Thanks for the great input already! I did buy some seeds just in case the store bought plant won't make it. I am really looking forward to this growing adventure! One last question then ....CHRISTMAS EVE! ... My plant seems to be flat, not standing up. Is this not enough water? When i do water it. seems to look better ,but i know over-watering is not a good thing. That's it for now, Merry Christmas everyone!

...don't over think it, sometimes a plant is better left alone to do its thing. Just keep the soil moist, not soaked. Try the tray method, if it's gonna live it should be fine. Merry Christmas.

Welcome to the forums! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask When one buys a VT out-of-season & keeps it growing, not in dormacy- is there special nutrient care? Or an earlier dormancy next yr?

Welcome to the forums! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask When one buys a VT out-of-season & keeps it growing, not in dormacy- is there special nutrient care? Or an earlier dormancy next yr? I'm still fairly new to CP but from what I've learned, you would just treat it as you normally would since you're just skipping dormancy. But next year you should definitely give it dormancy or it won't do too well (e.g. I've read that it might not flower the following year). But personally I never grown CP long enough to give you a definite answer! Hope someone can confirm this for me

Welcome!
Yep, Like danyoh said, skipping 1-2 dormancy is okay for the VFT. Don't use 'nutrient' for VFT.
