Can't help, sorry. Mine doing that too. I raise the humidity, the leave are not bigger. Perhaps I should give it more or less light, I do not know.
Weird thing. I'm growing U. quelchii too and all the stolon are going on the on the side opposite to the light which is not over the pot but to its right side.
Can you see if you have stolons everywhere, only in the bottom or on surface of the pot ? I can't do it with mine now but I'll try to look later.

It took awhile for my Reniformis to start growing. I kept the pot off to the side of the overhanging light and just noticed all leaves leaning towards the light. Some of the few larger leaves (1/4" diameter) developed a nice pink tinge around the margins. I just now placed them directly under the lights to see what will happen. I'll keep you posted. My Alpina has yet to take off. Cheers

As I understand it, lightwise, leaves come in smaller when excessive* light is available and stem growth between leaves is reduced.
*excessive: more than strictly needed for survival.

Hi Paulkoop - I grow mine as an emergent aquatic like U. humboldtii. Seems to prefer it. Whenever I grow it in net pots, it grows most toward the bottom, and if I let it sit in water, it grows out the bottom and I get nothing at the drier top. For me it grows decent sized leaves this way, 5-10cm across. It hasn't bloomed for me though, so maybe John's method is better for inducing blooms. Dunno.
