Hello, I am 20 years old and from Calgary, I am just getting into cp's, orchids and other interesting plants. I worked as a horticultural technician last year summer taking care of office plants. What was a job turned into a hobby and is quickly becoming an obsession. I am going to school in victoria come september (taking biology). As of right now I am growing in a 24"X12" converted 20 G aquarium. I've got a 3" pc fan wired up to blow 24/7 for air circulation, I mist the tank once a day. Conditions are consistently 20 C at night and 24 C during the day with a RH of 95-80% respectively. I scored a JBJ trinity Quad T5 HO fixture from a local aquarium shop for $50 which I threw in some 6500K Sunblaster T5HO bulbs with a photoperiod of 14 hrs. Right now I have a cheap grocery store VFT that I am temporarily keeping in the terrarium till I move out west. I have 2 Pinguicula Sethos that seem to be coming out of dormancy and colouring up a bit. I also have an unidentified nepenthes that I hope you guy's and gal's could help me out with. My newest addition is a sad looking Drosera Capensis you can kind of see in the pictures. I couldn't find anywhere to get one and Hawaiian Botanical's is not shipping retail yet so I ended up resorting to amazon. It looks like a cow sat on it, quite sad but the leaves still have some green to them and the roots are still intact I am hoping it comes around. Questions: Can anyone identify this Nepenthes? I am thinking some sort of Sanguinea X? Do you think my little drosera will bounce back? I'll try to get better pictures soon. What other plants would you guy's recommend for a terrarium setting, and where can I get them? I appreciate all insight and feedback! Dan

Dam my hopes to find something close to home dashed brilliantly If you are looking for Nepenthes, I know Golden acres has some 6" ventrata's in stock i think they were about $35 each. Also, "Plant Terrariums" In inglewood has them too but they don't know how to take care of them so they were not looking so good. Hope that helped!

golden acres had no idea eather but they seemed eager to learn how to take care of them. I'll check out Plant Terrariums to see what they have for stuff.

Looks like a ventrata. Your capensis will be fine.

Welcome around, as Lloyd said, it is most likely ventrata.

Welcome, I can get you a cutting of a N. Veitchii if you are interested. Neps are really easy to root but you will need a bigger pot and humid location for it.

Welcome! Not sure what the nepenthes is. The spotting inside of the pitchers makes me think it's something else than x ventrata, but time will tell. D. capensis will definitely bounce back as long as it has some roots. Pinguicula, Drosera, Neoregelia bromeliads, peperomias, nepenthes, and so on are all good for terrariums. I find that VFT's tend to do better outdoors but yours is looking quite nice in the terrarium. I don't know any places in Calgary but if you pass 10 posts on the forum, a sale/trade section will appear and you can acquire plants from people on this forum.
