Hello everyone! I recently bought a Nepenthes ventricosa (Thanks bcmosaic for buying it for me!), and it has a tiny pup growing next to the adult plant. I know that Nepenthes have Genders, they are either Male or Female and have different flowers. Do you know if their pups will always be the same gender as the parent plant? Thanks in advance! Here's the cute little N. Ventricosa:

The more you know, the more complicated everything gets eh? I think that if they could change genders like some fish, we'd be hearing a lot more about it. The hunts for pollen would be fewer and there would be more speculation on how to influence the desired outcome. grack It is a little sweetiepie.

I suppose the 'pups' will be same as cuttings, as asexual propagation, the gender should be the same. Can't wait to find out if sweetiepie is a boy or girl!

You are correct, any basal shoot or cuttings will be genetically identical and thus be the same sex.
Bet on it being male, every TC ventricosa I've flowered has been male. I can't imagine there are that many different TC clones out there.

Looks nice Willy. N. ventricosa is actually one of my favourite species, they are hardy and much cooler than x ventrata in my opinion. H20 took the words out of my mouth.

It is a nice species, I like that it appreciates lower light then most Nepenthes as well as having compact internodes even when it's vining. It becomes a nice bushy plant rather then a long stringy plant, my plant has got around a dozen growth points but because it's grown warmer the pitchers are smaller then normal.

The small pitchers on ventricosa look nothing like the adult pitchers, but still quite cool. They look exactly identical to immature x ventrata pitchers! I have to get me a ventricosa some time haha.
