On a thread exchange with Tom, we mentioned the fact regarding the small numbers of Canadian CPers.
So here is my open call for old friends and colleagues whom I had wonderful CP correspondence with ...before the advent of email and the web. I would love to hear back from any (or all) of these people...or from any of you out there who may know how to contact these fine folks (their last known locale in brackets):
Randy Lamb (Whitehorse) Rob Maharaj (Hamilton) Chris Nickle (North Vancouver) Andrew Short (Vancouver) John Szeto (Vancouver) Don McPherson (West Vancouver) Blair McLean (Toronto)
Some others not listed above, choose not to be in the public eye, and I'm still in contact via phone. But other old CP colleagues scattered throughout our great nation are still in contact through the CPlistserve...so a simple email post there usually generates a good response.
You may send me a private message if you think a public broadcast is not suitable. Thanks.

Nice initiative! If you have any infos about Rob Maharaj, let it me know, there is someone in Quebec, without internet connection, which would be very happy to contact him back i think (Claude Leclerc).
Talking about the ol' time, have you ever heard a form of D.binata called 'whale tail' (Queue de baleine) in the '80? The guy I talked about claimed to have received such a plant from his contact elsewhere in Canada in these dates, but having never seen such a name in registred form or book, I was questionning the veracity of this name... Any thoughts?

I just received this email from Bob Hanrahan on the CP discussion group listserve: > From: Bob Hanrahan <k4zd@arrl.net> > Reply-To: Carnivorous Plant Discussion group <Cp@omnisterra.com> > Date: Sun, 19 Mar 2006 14:49:59 -0500 > To: <Cp@omnisterra.com> > Subject: [CP] Formation of "BOG"
" Hello Fellow CP'ers,
The old WIP guy is reporting in again with a new idea.
Many of you know I have owned a substantial Gulf Coast CP bog for over 20 years
and have managed to propagate and add hundreds of thousands of carnivorous plants
to it over the years. Just recently, I realized that I am at that stage in life when it's time
for me to act accordingly to share my experiences and knowledge with others without
writing a book. Actually, I'm just acting upon Leo Song's famous Tao; "Knowledge
is not knowledge unless it is shared" theme. Consequently, I would like to offer my
experiences and couple them with others by forming a network or group of bog owners
to disseminate information on preserving and even augmenting privately owned
CP habitats.
The only initial requirement would of course be ownership of property that had, has,
or could support a CP population with minimal human involvement. The amount of
land owned would not be a factor, but the ability of the land to sustain plants for the
long haul would be. A lot of factors have to be considered when growing plants in
the ground and that would be an open topic for the group to discuss.
I realize that there may only be a handful of individuals around the world who are
fortunate enough to own CP habitats and are able to grow carnivores the easy way
by letting Mother Nature take care of them. The rewards can be undeniable and
beyond imagination when nature takes over. As an example, you can see images
of some of my plants that were just recently added to David Wong's new and
developing website at www.generasian.ca/cp.html. I think everyone will
really enjoy the shot of a few of the S. leucophylla plants at the bog.
Please email me at k4zd@arrl.net if you think this idea should grow or be buried.
And of course, let me know if you might be a candidate for the "Bog Owners Group."
We may have more in common than you realize.

whale tail (from what Claude told me), is a binata that the point of separation of the 2 folioles is flat... like... it makes a ''U'' instead of a ''V''
