Hey all!
I'm wondering if any of you can help me with some tips on apartment type conditions. Never used a forum before and i can't seem to find any information on my conditions, sorry if the info is already here. I live in an apartment, with south facing windows. In Perth Ontario. Summers are warm enough, but winters are very cold outside. (not inside, but outside may be relevant) I have an aquarium and a lamp available to me. My Leopard Geckos died of old age and i cant put myself through that again, so they are empty right now. Will CPs recieve enough light if i were to hang them in a window? or should i try the aquarium approach? or something different? I don't mind being creative, as in rigging weird contraptions up and time is not a problem (reason i ask if hanging is ok, is i have 2 cats that love play with things, including plants lol. Just cant afford fancy equipment but DIY stuff should work. oh and one more thing, My canadian tire sells Premier Sphagnum Peat Moss, is this an acceptable media?
Thanks in advance, Gerry
PS the lamp is a screw in type heating lamp, that will fit any standard type screw in bulb.

On a shelf in a south facing window in trays of distilled water should be fine. A covered aquarium could be used for the plants that like it really humid. You can supplement light with a 4' 2-tube T8 fluorescent light.
50/50 peat and perlite is the standard CP mix

Thanks! I didn't think a normal light socket would work, but worth asking:D Sorry about all the questions, just want to make them as happy as i possibly can. Maybe I'm just weird and think plants have feelings too lol

You can get some powerful compact fluorescent bulbs for a regular light socket. Should be used with a reflector to direct the light at the plants.

Don't buy any fancy peat, just the cubes, look for the "sustainable" logo. All the "premier" fancy brands have additives which will kill your plants.

If you have the space, a shop light with 6500k daylight t8s would work well to grow plants. Winter can be a problem if you are winter growing, I have to move my window growing nepenthes under artificial lights during winter so they don't lose their pitchers.
