Hi folks... quick update - just finished the circuit here in China with Premier Campbell. Had a lot of fun...now I will be doing the touristy thing. If you don't here from me for awhile, it's just that I've been busy looking at things over here. Yes... I took photos of Nepenthes for sale here in China. Real cheap too. You can get three Neps for under $2... big 12" potted specimens. I've been chronicalling my visit on my new blogsite over here: blog.generasian.ca (I have to caution you all that I do use some colourful language - so now you're warned). All the best look forward to chatting again when I get back home to Canada! David in southern China

I'm back home in Canada. After a looooong flight and severe sleep depravation, I get welcomed back to some nice snow. I took a bunch of photos of Neps available for sale in HK. Didn't get a chance to look for neps in the wild, though I know they do exist out there in southern China. Quite the 3 week sojourn. Met a lot of interesting people, and I've got a lot of catching up to do. A bit of crappy news. My water line had froze and bursted while i was away, but my heater kept going in the greenhouse. So, a number of my lowlanders have bitten the bisquit. Bummer. I will be in my greenhouse all day to day to see what made it and what didn't. Stay tuned for some updates from the westcoast David

Too bad about the plants. I didn't think it ever froze in Lotus Land. For big, expensive collections it would be worth someone checking your house daily although maybe you had one :-(.

okay... here's the damage" 15 lowland neps fried I hope the roots are still intact, so there may be hope for a shoot to appear. 3 highland neps rotted. All 15 lowlanders were in the "airy" orchid pots... thus allowing the sphag medium to dry much quicker than the plants in solid plastic or clay pots. From now on, if I ever leave for extended trips, I will sit the airy pots in trays of water to keep the plant roots wet. I have a gut feeling that most of the nep plants will make a come back. I'll photo them soon and post the damage for all to view... and chronicle the plants' progress over the next several months.
