I deffinatley had one of those days at work today, one of the highlights was bumping head first into a hornets nest! That's not what I'm writting about though, I came accross quite the interesting weed today! Just curious if anyone knows about it, I'll tell the name tommorow night if no one gets it before that. Looking in an annual bed with vinca and petunias, I thought that one of my charming co-workers had thrown some weed whipper line in there, so I dutifully grabbed the end to remove it, only to have it snap in my hand, definately the wrong consistancy for line! A plant is what I had in my hand, atleast a peice of one! Neon orange, about the consistancy of weed wacker line, and curly. So ofcourse intreuged, I bent down to get a closer look, and of course remove it. So as I'm looking for the crown (where it's rooted to the soil), I'm looking at this viney bright leafless plant, trying to figure out what it is. Well, it has no crown, not attacted to the soil in the slightest....peculiar! As I look closer, I notice that it has roots of a sort, but they are latched onto the annuals in the bed! A parasite!!! Know what it is yet!? Sib

Sounds like Dodder, a member of the morning glory family and a real pest. Get rid of it ASAP. It will spread like crazy. Once a friend of mine let a whole flower bed get infested with it and we spent hours getting rid of it. www.agf.gov.bc.ca/cropprot/weedguid/dodder.htm
