My wife and I would like to extend an invitation to any CP enthusiasts to come over to our place on either the 19th or 26th of August (we can determine the best day via feedback) to talk CP and enjoy a souvlaki BBQ (both pork and chicken) while doing so. For those who haven't had it, my wife, Sophia, makes the best souvlaki you've ever had - it's to die for. If you live within reasonable distance of the Kitchener, Ontario area, it would be well worth your while to come on down just for the food.
There might also be a possibility of visiting a bog or two in this area as well if its deemed feasible.
If you can make it out, let me know here so that we know how many tons of food we're going to need. You'll need to bring your own beverages and lawn chairs (those collapsable types are the best).
Our place isn't the largest, and my collection isn't the most extensive (see my grow list in these forums), but getting everyone together would make for a great yackfest, and we could finally put some faces to the names.
We're looking forward to meeting you all.
Rick Hillier

Sounds like a good idea, but of course we DID discuss it- I think maybe jimscott might be able to make it out, too, if the timing is right, I know there's a couple of folks he wanted to meet on here someday.
If we can indeed make it, we will cook up something to bring to eat (I forgot to mention that Ange and I are vegetarian and no matter how hard I try, I can't rationalize souvlaki as a vegetable sadly) maybe some kind of Salad and some hummous or baba ganoush or something, we can co-ordinate it closer to the actual date.
as a quick aside, it was GREAT to meet you and yours yesterday Rick, hopefully we'll get enough time to really "get going" at this function, and hopefully at least a few of the local contingent would be up for the trip, it should be a real blast, thanks for the invite!!

I forgot to mention... no souvlaki dinner is complete without a huge Greek salad, stuffed peppers, etc. Ther'll be lots for everyone. If you would like to bring something along, that'd be cool too. Remember too that BEER is a vegetable >>> Rick <<<

Mmmmm, the sweet taste of a dormant thread Okay, the time is growing short on this. Are we still any form of a "go"?? I talked to boondude a few days ago on MSN and he said he'd be in IF Syble was also attending- but I suppose that it is moot with no confirmation, and I know how time can change plans..... Are we gonna try to cook up some kind of informal meeting?? Purpman was suggesting some sort of little shindig while we were out bogging, but we haven't discussed it past one brief convo I would REALLY dig getting together with a few fellow hobbyists in some form... Anyways, figured I'd kick this sucker back to the top and see who salutes And to that end, I guess I should PM Rick...

Funny mabudon, I was logging on to find out what the informal plan! I'd still be interested in going, and if the date is still undecided, the 26th is better for me! I have comber fair next weekend and harrow in the end of august begining of september. So boonbudes attendance hinges on mine? I missed the memo!! Thanks, Sib

I work on Saturdays but it might be a possibility depending on the time. Is it a dinner or lunch? I guess Kitchener is about an hour's drive from Toronto.

It would be nice to finally meet some more CPers, but unfortunately, August is filled with family functions every weekend until Labour Day.

Greetings all, We're finally finished with our daughter's travelling baseball show for the summer (Rachael had a season .489 batting average!) Just think... only 4 weeks until tryouts for next year I still want to go forward with the food/plant-fest. Any weekend after the 12th would suit us just fine, with the exception of Labour Day weekend, which I would think would be out for most. That would leave the weekends of aug 19 & 26 and anything after sep 9. I thought I'd put it to the masses to see what weekend would be best for this thing. Let me know which of aug 19,26 or sep 16,23 work out. If more than one works out, let me know which ones do in order of priority. A word of warning... my bog garden has been totally ravaged by several violent storms that came through this area. All of the sarracenia are absolutely flat and 90% of the drosera are absolutely gone! What is left of my VFT don't look very happy either. But not to worry, what my garden lacks will be made up by some of the best souvlaki (that's vegetarian, isn't it Carl ) and Greek salad you've ever had. We'll look after the soft drinks, water, etc. If you want anything alcoholic, bring your own. If you have some sort of culinary specialty you want to share with the group, feel free to bring it. I hadn't thought of anything regarding a field trip, but it might be possible to visit a bog or two close to here (maybe Sifton Bog in London or the Drumbo bog (if anyone knows an easy way in) or something else (insert suggestions here)... Looking forward to a fun day. Let me know about those dates and pass this around to as many CP enthusiasts that you know. I'll keep everyone posted on how it develops. >>> Rick <<<

I know I'm absolutly not available labourday weeken or the surrounding dates, nor this weekend. And of it, a sunday would work best for me. Thanks, Sib
