I've checked out urban bog for my first sarracenia and I am deciding between S.pupurea spp. pupurea or s.rubra. I have some experience with Nepenthes but none with sarracenia. I plan to grow it outside year round (Ontario) with appropriate mulching in a pot. Which would be eaiser to grow? Thanks to all recommendations.

Nice poll For me, its purp because even if you forgot the plant outside in winter, no problemo :-)

I would go for the S. rubra, it grows extremely quickly and divides so quickly that you'll be able to split it in no time. S. purp purp is often regarded as an extremely easy plant but in my opinion it divides too slowly to reward beginners. I had a 4-5 growth S. rubra that grew into dozens of growth points in a season and a half. If it were me I would just get both

The Purpurea var purpurea will cope fine with your weather and the low winter temperatures, the rubra less so without proper protection, but if you can protect it adequately then why not try both. Cheers Steve
