Received this mexi-ping as a single rosette, in a trade last fall with 31drew31. Since then, these basal rosettes have forced themselves out from between crevices in the bottom rows of leaves on the mother plant, resulting in a Hen-and-Chicks-like look for this P. x 'Florian'. dvg

Hi DVG - That's a very cool looking ping high-rise. How do you do it? It's like you have some magic powers to turn ordinary pings into strange and different forms. Whatever it is keep up the good work and keep letting us see the results. Love it!

I still agree with Apoplast, Doug is hiding some sort of magical ping-growing powers.
But honestly Doug you make me wish I grew pings, amazing plant as always.

Thanks guys, Effectively, those are so gorgeous 'florian'. I neglected mine but I'll try to give them better cares now. !00% mineral media ? Shoggoths, it looks like an all mineral mix, but there is just a pinch of compost, mixed into the media as well. Once the media is top-watered, the compost washes down between the crevices in the sand, leaving it essentially invisible. dvg

That is truely a stunning Ping dvg!
I am curious, what does your mineral mix consist of? I currently use equal part lava rock, perlite, vermiculite, silica sand and peat moss but I am always looking to explore other medias.

Thanks FC. My mix is probably quite similar to yours. I use lava, perlite, pumice and coarse silica sand in mine in approximately equal measures. If the media is free draining, that's what you're aiming for. Try contacting a local bonsai supply outlet for some of these media components. dvg
