Me again, sorry. New batch of seeds arrived today, would like to try germination on fungicide treatened substrate. Captan is usually recommended, but tried to find it and couldn't. Only 5% Captan with 5% Carbaryl, named "Bulb and Soil Dust". Will this combination work as fungicide for droseras or cephalotus seeds substrate? Also "No Damp Off" wich is milled sterilized sphagnum - for sale is only "No Damp" Benzoxine 2.5%. Is it usable for CPs? Any other fungicides? Sulphur powder seems stops germination.

Sulpher based products be it pesticides or fungicides is striking a chord in my mind....I seam to recal reading posts about people using them and not working, or causing harm to plants. personnally I use no damp for like every thing, I find it works quite well also. And it's easy to get ahold of. I can get other fungicides through my licence, but the size of the container and cost prohibitive. Sib

Dilution recommended by manufacturer is 1:100, Rand from NS uses 1/4 strength. What dilution you find effective and safe? Thanks.

There is a company just north of Toronto that sells a product called RootShield which is supposed to be outstanding however I haven't been able to get up to their warehouse. Supposedly it contains a beneficial fungus that is one of the best things for preventing Damping off.
I'll try to find some more information and post it here later,
Zac

The only micorrizae I used (for garden plants) is Myke's Micorrizae from hardware stores; unfortunately, it marked as not suitable for a plants that grow at low pH. Saw GH Subculture 1oz at hydroponic store (bustan.ca) - didn't tried yet, expensive - described as 52 soil microorganisms, blend of bacteria, actinomycetes and trichoderma fungi. Tried No-Damp - it works, but not for all fungi, if I remebber right, for Phytophthora. "Bulb and Soil Dust" (Only 5% Captan with 5% Carbaryl) worked on Sarracenia seeds for a month, then all started over again. Also tried diluted Peroxide (H2O2) - orchid growers on the web recommended it at full strength (3%) as antibacterial and antifungal for a more kinds of fungus than Sulphur powder, which works for 3 kinds only (sorry, this is hear-say information, no comments on reliability, but don't hurt to try). It too early to see results.

There is a product in the states called physan. I have found the same chemical in a pool antifungeside/antialgeside chemical. I cant remember the chemical names but the pool stuff I have has 1 of the 2 chemicals in Physan. The pool chem has this and only this chemical in it. I have used it and have noticed it works on all but samall drosera seedlings they don't like it. Do a serch on physan if you look hard enough you will find its ingredients. I think one is Dimethylbezylammoniumchloride Alkyl(C14,C16,C12) the other is just as hard to pronounce. By the way dont drink this stuff it tasts bad or is it, it will kill you??? Its funny Canada regulates this for plants but if you want to bathe in it, well thats ok. Sometimes I have to shake my head. Stephen Oh ya I have used the benificial fungus stuff too it seems to work. I purchased about 5mills at a hydroponic store. They split up a 1L bottle for samples. It is expencive but if you can find a small quantity like I did its the goods. It also lasts a long time 1drop/l of water.
