The humidity in my basement is around 35% now so I bought some aluminum trays and filled them with Toronto tap water. Bad idea. Toronto tap water is so high in salts that the thick aluminum trays corroded & leaked terribly within a week, soaking the carpet. I immediatedly switched to plastic trays.

The trays didn't have any plants in them.
