I'm sure everyone is sick of hearing about my work but we have a rajah and its seems to be growing fine. I ALWAYS thought that it was highland all the way but the temps in the greenhouse are 80-85 on a hot day and 75-80 on a cool day and at night the computer has a wide range, 70-85. So most of the time it’s really hot. When it does get hot misters come up and a fogging the area where it is growing but still its only bringing the temp down a couple degrees. Once again the humidity is rarely below 95. Any thoughts? It has pitchered on every leaf since its been there and it's next one is still inflating.

Normally, those higher temps wouldn't be considered conducive for highland Neps. But this just goes to show how adaptive plants can be...in the short term anyway.
I'm not sure how this plant would do long term in these conditions, but the fact that it is pitchering on every leaf is a very good sign of a happy plant.
Good work there, especially in those condtions.

Fantastic plant Justin. Man!! Sad and ironic that my entire nepenthes obsession started with N. rajah and yet I have never been able to grow it consistently as I keep moving just when they get adjusted and start doing well.

I personally think what you just mentioned has to do with why its still alive and growing. its under the exact same conditions all the time. Its ever got a north arrow on the pot so it never gets rotated. AND I would like to add that this little guy isn't mine I just help look after all the plants in the gardens, this one is in our little growing area that not many people see haha along with a few other fun plants

I too have rajas growing ard the same temp as yours, and it is doing great. I think the constant humid does play a part. However, as dvg said But this just goes to show how adaptive plants can be.... for me it is ard long term. Raja in their own habitat does have some days of intermidate. So it is ok for it, as long as not to let it exposed to LL, it is ok.

...I realize this is an ancient thread but if anyone has a N. Rajah plant or cuttings I would be highly interested. I will post in the Wanted section as well. Thank You.

Hi Justin - I missed this. I always tell people that plants are often more cold hardy then you'd guess by their range, but they are rarely more heat tolerant. That said, it's a guideline. Some "high elevation" tropical plants are far more tolerant of heat than expected. I know grow a set of plants from Andean cloud forests that are reputed to require low night time temperatures. People obsess over this. However, some species grow better with warmer temps, while others are really more "tolerators" of these warmer conditions. I suspect with the diversity in Nepenthes, this might be true as well. I wouldn't be surprised, but information on which species have greater tolerances is very useful. Good to know Justin!

I love seeing these 'ancient' threads! Justin-do you still work there and is that rajah still in existence?

The plant is no longer with us. I stopped working for the gardens for a couple years and the plant wasn't around when I came back 3 or 4 years ago.

I was thinking where was this when I was there! Well that explains why. That's sad it's not there.
