SO I am growing the Bhutt Jolkia on the balcony and the plant is doing great. Went to pick a few peppers (how many peppers did I pick) and a flock of white flies appears and then quickly disappears back to their perches. So to avoid the use of chemicals I picked up an oothecas(praying mantis egg sack) and placed it at the base of the plant.... will probably be a few more days till it hatches. So in the mean time I shake the plant every day while spraying with water... that seems to be lowering the population for the last few days. Must keep enough alive for the baby mantids to feast on. Anything else I can do without killing my new pets?? Leny

Leny, maybe you could remove the ootheca and spray you plant with Neem oil, then place the eggsack back in it's place. Neem oil doesn't harm predator insects, because they are not ingesting it as a plant sucking or chewing herbivorous insect would. Out here in Alberta we have a product called Ultragrowth that is made up of B-vitamins, from the look of it and it's N-P-K ratio is 0-0-4. It works like a charm on whitefly. Good luck with those 1.1million plus scoville unit hot peppers. Sir Mabs has a hunkerin' to try one of those puppies raw while being filmed on digicam...I'd pay money to see that one. ;D dvg

Ahhh lenynero's balcony is now excitements new home You can wipe the plants down with some water with dish-soap mixed in, that helps tho it is definitely a labour-intensive control at the least. A strong enough jet of water will take care of the in a temporary fashion as well. I have, in the past, beaten down an entire whitefly infestation on an overwintering habanero in my windowsill with nothing more than persistence, so with the helps of bonus predators you should be fine.... And I REALLY would like some seeds at the end of the season

The ootheca was being sold at a local greenhouse.. I think it was Woodhill on Steeles. Cost 20 bucks. Now to find some fruit flies in the GTA... gonna try a few reptile pet food supplies near me and see what they have.
