Alright this is my mega spring picture thread. Since ive moved recently ive been able to redo my setup and improve
the health of all my plants. So after a month and a half ive woken some plants up and started my spring schedule.
I took these pictures at 2:30am because I was bored so there really wasn't any natural light. Also some may be
blurry as I didn't really look after 20 pictures or so.
So lets start by showing you the only section picture I took. Heres what they look like as a setup.
Heres a picture of a gnat fly who landed on my 'John rizzi' ping. This ping is massive and juiced this little guy up.
Heres a further away picture to see him.
Alright those were just some quick pictures. Heres every plant in my collection. I will try to provide names as most arn't named on the pots anymore so ... I hope I know my ladies! The pictures are in whatever order my picture program decided to order them soo... here we go!
Here is a Drosera Regia. Being under the lights and the much better humidity. It really shines now with dew. I know I said this before but these guys honestly have a sticky dew unmatched by any sundew ive ever met. I got caught by some of this while taking the pictures and it actually stretches up to a foot before breaking now. This stuff could easily catch a bird (kidding but ... not)
Here are some Drosera Burmanii I acquired from Hackerberry. He was very nice and gave me 2 of them. They in turn flowered
and I harvested those seeds. I grew a few more in this pot and now its a awesome pot of them. I had them all flower recently and had over 1 million seeds.
This is a Ping. 'Pirouette' I received from johnnybee7. A very nice ping. It was candy pink under my old lights but since has been in the corner and stays a nice mild pink. It has recently flowered and like all pings divide like mad once flowering. Many of these are now growing in a small 3 inch cup.
My poor old Drosera Capensis (Red). Ive treated it soo poorly and it was doing really well until I moved. I then had it in bad media that never kept water well and it dried out frequently. I have since re potted it in a tall 4 inch cup to give it more media and replaced it with some moss so it should never dry again. Hopefully this summer it will come back (I know it will) and recolor and show some nice growth.
Drosera Capensis (Alba). This plant nearly died a few months ago. It had a severe case of red spider mites. I ended up curing it and its slowly been recovering. Its not like the red but its alive and doing better. Maybe this summer it will look good again.
Drosera Ordensis. I acquired this a few months ago and like all 'petiolaris complex' plants I find them extremely hard to grow. Once in a while I hit a environment they like and they explode
with growth and color but I havent found this guy's one yet. Hes still alive thats all I can really say...
Ping. leugena or something? I cant be bothered to get its name. It was from keehns carnivores. It hasn't done much for me. I think they are like the petiolaris drosera for me.. either they live
or once I find a environment they explode in growth. I think it went through a dormancy so I have no idea what its up to.
Drosera Paradoxa. A awesome plant. I think ive mastered its growing conditions and am in the process of making it a showpiece. I replanted this guy and it split. Its got a nice media topping and looks great so hopefully this summer I can create some clones or have it flower. Im excited for this one!
Drosera Rotundifolia. This guy did not do my dormancy well. I admit, my dormancy was growing great until I had to move and then most plants went through a 30 degrees temp change daily from freezing to hot. Most lived but after re potting this guy he hasn't done well. It does have a small growth in the middle and some VERY small new sprouts on the side. It should do ok this summer and come back, Im not really worried about losing this guy..... yet.
Dionaea Muscipula. I admit, I thought I was smart and could tell the difference between my B52's and typicals when I put them into dormancy. I could but... when I took them out of dormancy I had no idea whose who. Im still in process of finding out whats what but all VFT's are guesses now. I think this is a typical. I bought from safeway a few years ago and its still living. Recently out of dormancy (my bad dormancy) with no ill effects. Yahoo!
Pinguicula 'John Rizzi'. A most worthy ping for anyones collection. The biggest, INCREDIBILY aggressive in growth ping. Its about 6 inches across and it has never stopped growing since ive had it. It replaces its leaves almost weekly. What a weird plant but it just replaces its leafs weekly and has not stopped for months. I have no idea about a flower or what its future plans are but I know it involves another 100 set of leafs. A most awesome ping to have. Notice its 4 inch cup? Its growing well over it which just goes to show its true 6 inch size. It dominates any 4 inch cup.
Drosera Aliciae. What a sad looking sundew. It use to be awesome and after some water accidents and it splitting its never been the sundew it once was. It has spit again (notice all the points) however it goes red and kinda dies then regrows. I have no idea what this plant is up to. I think it may die one day but I have no idea how to stop it or get it normal.
Drosera Adelae. I use to have one that (typical behavior) split. I never had a good pot for it so it was always dry and never looked good. After giving it a replant it still never looked good. I ended up regrowing some new cuttings (which is this picture) so I could hack down the other one and force it to regrow. these have great color and dew and this picture is kinda blurry so you wont see the dew but trust me, they are all dewy and looking great!
Drosera Nidiformis. Im 90% sure thats what this is. I bought it near dormancy time and put it away. I personally havent seen it grow yet until now after taking it out of dormancy. This plant is awesome and when I received it from keehns, like most plants he has, it came with a billion growth points. It still has them after dormancy and im really wondering and hoping it grows SUPER massive and bushy with all those points!
Dionaea Muscipula. Typical again from many years back. Looks good with no ill effects.
Drosera Angelica. This plant came into my hands and looked like it was dying. I was planning to put it into dormancy anyways and so it went a month earlier then any of my other plants so that it would hopefully survive. Well it did and came out awesome (with many growth points). I did forget to water this guy so its leafs did dry out a bit BUT it forgave me and im watering it more and its redewing and growing. Yay!
Drosera Dielsana. (90% sure). I had some from keehns that I replanted very poorly and they did die. I was upset until Hackerberry gave me some seeds of these guys. Over the winter they have gotten bigger and the last month they have flowered for me. Now I have replaced my dead dielsana with many many more! So a unhappy ending made happy. These guys are great! They were super red before but ive moved them into the corner of my setup so they receive much less light and have lost there all red color for now.
Pinguicula Gigantae. (Unsure on spelling). This plant has stayed alive but like some of my pings hasnt done a thing. I need to find out why its not growing for me. I replanted it to see if that would help but nothing yet...
Drosera ?. I received a ping from Hackerberry in this and split the water when watering this and it covered the top of the pot. The baby ping in it did not survive. It just turned brown afterwords and died. HOWEVER there apparently was some drosera in here. I think they are capes but I dont know. Will have to see hackerberry for some ID of potentials. I do need some regular cape replacements so maybe these will be them!
Pinguicula Cyclosecta. A awesome ping. Its stayed super small too. I need to research more and get this guy going.
Pinguicula Moranasis. (Unsure on spelling). Its been a great ping, it was doing nothing until I had it in my nep take (gnat outbreak which it easily enjoyed). With the higher humidity it started to grow well. This should flower or do something
in the near future here.
Sarracenia Rubra. I wanted a sar. but not a small one. Matures are easier to care for and you dont have to watch them grow up, everything is already available. I bought this from keehns around my dormancy time and it went through it fine (no ill effects)
and has started to come out nice. This picture shows its overall growth and what it looks like. It is coloring very nice because its beside a HUGE CFL which I know is as good as outside. I didnt get a picture of it but apparently this sarr works as a sugar producer. It has sugar drops ALL OVER ITS MOUTH AND DOWN THE PLANT. I have no idea why it produces so much but the only thing more annoying then getting Regia slime on your arm is getting the sticky sugar from this guy on your arm. Annoying but awesome...
Heres a picture of them beside the CFL. Most of these pictures are pretty fresh and its got more coming. I think being beside the CFL like this is acceptable to grow this sucker inside. I dont know if it can have this location forever but for spring im sure it can stay beside the CFL and get some awesome rays.
This is my little Drosera + Dionaea grow. It use to be a little cup with 2 Drosera filiformis (all red) and 2 B52 leaf pullings but after some time ive upgraded its little home and now it has a big moss container and it seems the Drosera didn't like the move too much but the VFT's are still small and doing good. I hope the babies in here this summer will get bigger.
Dionaea Muscipula 'Red Dragon'. Im 50% sure on that. Its either a Green dragon or a red. I know when I got it, it was all red. (I have the tag somewhere but im too lazy look). This little guy has done great. I did have all my rare vft's die (big mouth/red/green dragon/dentate etc..) and this was at the store when I bought all my pings. So I took a chance and got this guy in hopes I can start doing a better VFT section. He is small so maybe this summer he was double... maybe.
Dionaea Muscipula 'Typical'. Im sure this is a typical. Nothing more to say...
Drosera Regia! I have 2 big guys right now, this is the second oldest and I honestly had no way to measure its leafs for this picture but I did have a 6 inch pot so I tried holding it up behind one of the leafs to show its true size. The leafs hover around
10-12 inches long. Imagine its span, get 2 long leafs on each side and it really starts to take up your setup! This one and my oldest one have split and have about 3 growth points each. These guys are maneaters and I cant always get all there leafs in the pictures
anymore. Oh well, they dew great, have some red coloring alone their vine centers and I really really enjoy these. Im slowly trying to get more via root cuttings. I have 2 roots cut so hopefully they will grow for me.
Drosera Regia. Heres the oldest Regia, a while back around summer when some passed away this guy went into a dieback. If the regia is big enough they will die back and regrow when conditions are better. This guy did just that. He was a MONSTER before and has almost got back to his original size. Hes split into many points but hasn't regained his true size (he needs to about double). As you can see by his long leafs they really span a big distance and are fantastic dews. Nothing small about these guys, they really like to show themselves!
Cephalotus Filarcus?. A ceph. Mine had some big experience a while back. I overfed all its pitchers (I though I under fed them) but doing all its pitchers really shocked it when they all died several days later. the plant had lost 2/3 of its bulk and then I noticed a red spidermite outbreak (wtf?) however its now in a humidity dome and I havent seen anymore spiders since. It is slowly regrowing now though so hopefully this guy comes back even though I did give him one hell of a winter.
Drosera Adelae. These are the parents from the picture above. I cut these all down so they could regrow and they seem ok but... man I just cant get these guys 100%. Maybe they will do better soon. The small green thing in the front is a Ping. Gigantae pulling.
I was testing to see if a new growth will do better then the one above who does nothing.
Pinguicula Wesers!. I had some leaf pullings from Hackerberry that I took pullings from a month later and heres what I ended up with. 2 pullings into ... this. I plan on giving these to my dad for a fish tank thing he is doing so I might just keep one soon. Oddly enough im sure you noticed that super big one. WTF is up with him? Hes like a mutant of a ping and its cool to see another collosus ping like the 'John Rizzi'. (Hes smaller btw.. the weser mutant)
Passiflora Incarnata/Aa...?/Quadranglous/Misc Sarrs/Misc VFTs/Random Sundews. Big list on this one!
I have recently got some seeds from Hackerberry for some passiflora (passion fruit vines) and they have sprouted. I have them all there growing well. He also gave me a few trays of sarrs and vft. I forgot the names of them but I hope he remembers. A name/word comes to mind.. rocky something. But some baby sarrs and vft that are doing awesome here! I like seeing this little guys. The VFT also have 2 rogue sundews with them. They dont look like Drosera capensis at all so im excited to see if they will be something else. You probably cant see them in the picture anyways, they are pretty small ones.
Drosera Capensis/Nep. hybrids/Passiflora. (Left to right). I have some baby red capes (or regular I dont remember. A lesson I learned... always name stuff cause today you know what they are... tomorrow you wont!). So some sort of capes that I had as babies. They havent grown much but im sure im just too impatient. Then I have some neps. They are hybrids and im sure they are raffelsina hybrids. I ordered some neps from keehns and wanted a few 'fillers' and he said he had some hybrids that were like my other ones but unsellable due to their hybrid nature. I took them and well I recently did a prune job on them (almost all leafs gone) as they jsut wern't doing as good as I wanted them too. They grow really slow though, it quite annoys me. Then on the end I have some more passiflora seeds.
Misc herbs! (Basil/tarragon/Dill/Cilantro/Sage/Spearmint/something else). I grew some herbs so I didn't have to buy them. Little guys are so potent I think I would have rathered just bought them.
Eating one basil leaf will knock you out and wreck your taste for the day.
Drosera Binata. This guy came out of dormancy and wasn't doing great. I knew there soil was back and highly compacted. I replanted them and when I saw the roots I was in horror. The soil had packed SO TIGHT that it had no roots that penetrated the soil. They will just balled up in its little moss/filler media I used before planting it. Now its re potted into soft peat and should do very nice this summer.
LOL. Byblis Linifora (I think). Seeds from keehns. I had pictures of this a while ago and I forgot to water it and it was MEGA dry and died. Oh well. I still had lots of seeds. One little growth did come back and as you can see... no wind = weak stems. This guy grows ok and Ive since given him a stick to lean on but I re'sowed some new seeds to get a pot of these guys again. Summer time should be exciting for this pot!
Drosera Binata (Dicotoma Giant). Same situation as the Binata above. Its old soil was so compacted it had no root growth. Should recover and do very nice this summer.
Drosera Binata (Multifida extremea). Same situation as the Binata above. Its old soil was so compacted it had no root growth. Should recover and do very nice this summer. I saved its
moss topping since it was actually growing lots of offshoots in it, and from pictures last year, it had a really lush and nice moss covering. I hope the moss survived the ripping and replanting.
Sarracenia Flava. Bought from a store and was a little smaller last year. After dormancy its come back with some taller shoots! I hope it gets bigger though although it is a cute little sarr right now that is awesome indoors.
Sarracenia Flava #2. Same as above. It however has not shot back like the other one. It does have some small growths now but the other one grew immediately. This one is sure taking its time to come back.
Sarracenia Psittacina. (Im 10% sure its this). I have the tag somewhere with its real name but this is a hybrid sarr. Bought like the rest its come back very nice from dormancy. I cant wait to see this guy this summer. He lacks color though which kinda disipoints me but... I can always improve on that. They are afterall in my lesser setup, not my high intensity one where everything colors.
Sarracenia Purpurea. I bought 2 of these and they were really red when I got them. After dormancy they havent colored so im guessing they want to be outside. I like these guys and they seem to be growing really big. Bigger then I thought.
I also trimmed one of dead growth so thats why its pointed like a spear lol. I cant wait to see these guys come summertime.
Sarracenia Psittacina. (10% sure like above, they are both the same thing). This one is very vigorous with its growth. Kinda scary when you buy a small plant and it doubles in your hands... not what I expected.
Dionaea Muscipula 'B52'. This is the parent plant that I know 100% is a b52. I divided it many times last summer and it has several offshoots im waiting to name this summer after a misnaming mishap. This guy is fresh out of dormancy and instead of coloring its getting its big traps out. I would prefer color but I will take the monster traps too!
Dionaea Muscipula. I think its a b52. It doesn't have any traits to determine it yet but im 50% sure it is. Come summer I will know for sure but heres another VFT (most likely a new offshoot last year of a B52).
Dionaea Muscipula. Same as above. Lots of growth on this guy, growth makes me happy especially when its that much!
Dionaea Muscipula. I think this is a typical. I had a small typical and im sure its the one in this pot. No idea what this VFT trap is. Will have to wait until summer to find out.
Drosera Regia. A topshot of this guy. It looked alot better in real life then this picture. Heres a top shot anyways..
THAT IS ALL! Thanks for reading and viewing my plants! I know I owe alot to many growers and forum posters for help and getting plants and I appreciate them all!
With every plant I kill I do learn something and these pictures are just a reminder of what I do right and im glad I can show you guys that I am able to grow some plants
with your help. Now hopefully you can learn something from these pictures even if its how some might look and then you can inturn take pictures of your plants
and show me your success stories and pictures!
