Just thought i'd share a marker tip. I like everyone hates wasting labels on seedlings that don't grow. This can be a common problem, and is all that much worse with the black pots i use. At least with the green pots you can use the black sharpie nursery markers and they'll work for the most part. I recently picked up some silver tip markers also made by sharpie, and they work beautifully on the black pots. So as for now i just assign a number to the cross (which corresponds to my master list), once it sprouts in the spring, i can give it a proper label or just discard it. by just writing a number on it i wont feel bad about using the pots again for something else and worrying about miss id'ing it.
