Maybe everybody knows this but Canada Post now has a service where you can pay for shipping and print out the shipping labels at home. You know right away if the package is the right size and no waiting in line. You pay by credit card. You do need a home scale but you can buy a cheap one for a few dollars. I used it today and just dropped the package off at the mailbox in front of the local post office about a 15 minute walk away. I think you actually can drop the package off at any mailbox except for specific mail services.

interesting news buddy! Thanks! I guess leaves us more options when we want to ship or get plants shipped to us.

thanks Lloyd. That's good to know...especially when I'd been relying on the unreliable UPS guys out here.

Quick question... has anyone ever tried mailing small plants via VHS video tape sized boxes? This may be an inexpensive way to move small plants and sarr rhizomes at this time of year.

I'm sure it should work- the post people are weird about answering questions tho- there's a minimum size for a certain type of package, anything TOO small becomes more expensive and I SWEAR the answers you get will vary WILDLY every time you ask the same questions- I used to trade a lot of these little miniature figures (one inch tall) and the cheapest way to ship tham was to put them in a box that was around 30x too big to simply hold the figure- it cost me nearly double the first time I sent something in a too-small container- something you might want to look into tho, for sure, cos them VHS cases are A)practically obsolete and B) REAL sturdy, good call David

If you print your own labels at home the minimum package size is a little less than 22 cm X 14 cm X height (not too critical). Anything smaller and the label won't fit and you're not allowed to fold it over. I think the VHS package is a little too small.

That's what I was talkin about tho, for sure, Lloyd, thanks!

I think it's the Length x Width that are the critical dimensions. So if you padded it with bubble wrap and paper it might be Ok.
