you can give or remove a karma point by either pressing exhalt (+1) or smite (-1). good trades usually bag you a point, but for 'x' reasons, we can lose karma, based on someone else, whom we can't identify (there's no signature to a karma point, there's no 'leave a reason why you're giving this guy/girl a point or removing a point'...) maybe bad trades have left people to want to remove a point... maybe all 5 were deducted by the same person...idk hope this helps

Don't take it personally. We've had this problem before. Some people (I suspect not "real" members) have given negative karma before for no real reason. I don't think anyone here has ever deserved negative karma except two who were waaaaaaay out of our "normal". This has nothing to do with your behaviour. I gave you a point to make you feel better. Actually I think the moderators can tell where the karma comes from.

There is even somebody here who has karma of -666 but I don't think it has anything to do with his behaviour. Somebody hit mine -2 once and I am a newbie who has done nothing.

Lloyd- unless I have some "lite" version of mod "powers" I don't think any of us can tell who did what with the "karma score". If I had the ability I might go so far as to try and fix whatever real or perceived "offense" brought it on. As it stands I take much of it with a box of salt (for instance, one of my good friends sometimes "smites" me when he's bored- whether or not he is the only one, whenever I notice someone has monkeyed with my tally I laugh out loud and curse him)
Most of what folks have posted here is true tho, I would say that 90+ percent of the "negative" points are in fact unjustified, and many of the "positive" points have variable values- sometimes a single point can represent a good joke or a really well-made, thoughtful post, sometimes it can represent a "thank you" for a gift or gesture and so on.
I DO find it odd that newbies tend to be the focus of negative shots moreso than long-term members
Oh and yes, Mr. -666 requested that specific number so it was granted, oddly enough setting it like that was in fact a form of "thank you" to him hahahaha

I thought events on the forum left some sort of IP trace that moderators could look at on a log of some kind.

Oh yeah- Sib has IP lookup but I am fairly sure she can't use it on "karma" numbers- as a humble second-stringer all's I can really do is move threads, delete and edit posts, and sometimes help people do things with their accounts that they can't figure out themselves. Oh and I can post nonsense

Yeah it can be a bit of a headache (especially when you have the word "moderator" on your posts hahaha) I think it is a TINY bit useful in some way tho- if you notice, most of the more vocal posters tend to have fairly high scores, also the most generous people tend to sport big digits. If anything it keeps people on their toes I guess... Oh and that's a FINE avatar muscipula
