i remembered a storm we had last year and i stuck my head in the window to see, within 3-5 minutes, lightning stike a power line tower 3 times at the same point! now i know you all are going to say, well next time record it and post it on youtube or something. well i plan on doing so come the first spring rainstorm. i am willing to bet all of my cp's that i can get this vid up by next summer, anyone willing to bet i can't make it happen...lol I'll setup a camera pointing on the tower come the next thunderstorm.
i'll post links as soon as i can get a shot of this event!
ps, this is not serious, i am not putting my collection on the line, just thought it'd be fun to post

Oh, I don't doubt that for a second... When I was younger, we were out golfing and got caught in a wicked thunderstorm and had to take shelter in a "rain shack", leaving our clubs beside a large tree outside. I don't know if the lightning went up or down, but my bag was hit TWICE! What a mess... all the grips were melted together, not to mention that everything was burned beyond salvageability. Sure ruined my round!

Lightning will hit anything repeatedly thats high enough, pointy enough or conductive enough. Funny thing last summer, there was a big crack of lightning outside my living room then immediately we heard an electronic version of "Ode to Joy" come from the bookcase. My wife any I were like What the F*ck?? Turned out there was an old battery powered hand held videogame stashed back there. Not plugged in, nowhere near any power. Guess it just got off on the EMF pulse.

sorry to hear about your clubs, i would have loved to take that claim (i work in insuraces..ha ha) lightning does go upwards a lot of the time, the charge on earth would be stronger than the charge in the clouds, shooting the bolt skywards to balance the polarities...cool topic!

wow, that might have been a little scary, i can imagine you and your wife sipping tea when all of a sudden you hear Beethoven music in the distance....sounds like an appropriate horror movie. matei
