Hi there! On finally giving up and going online (local CP resources are shoddy at best), I found links to this forum and thought I would sign up.
I'm completely new to growing CPs, and at the moment, don't even have any going, but have always been fascinated by them. I am breeding crested geckos at the moment, and have found that along with their ease of care, come fruit flies from their foods. I figured that I have a free 18(w)x18(d)x24(h) inch exo terra terrarium and would love to kill 2 birds with one stone per se... Get into something neat, while controlling the fruit fly population at the same time!
So, here I am. If anyone has any recommendations for a complete numpty at this, or perhaps has seeds they would just love to give away to a starter, I would be completely tickled pink to hear it!

Welcome to the forums! Anything from a flytrap to a simple sundew or butterwort (ping) would do you good I think

I actually registered today with the very same mission! After googling "what eats fruit flies" (we were seriously ready to get a pet bat) I found this site: forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/carnivor/msg1016532327082.html Which recomendsA sundew, butterwort, or drosera. I've called local nurseries and even big-box stores with no luck.

Welcome to the forum oberon and eirual! Hopefully you'll enjoy your stay. And oh psst, eirual? Droseras and sundews are the same thing. But that's okay, trust me I shouldn't be judging you because couldn't even spell the term drosera when I started hehe! @hb: Wow, I just realized I said almost the same thing as you! Haha.

Hello and welcome aboard! I will have some Drosera available in the spring. it is too cold to ship them now but be patient and I am sure more people will be willing to give you some as soon as the weather warms up. Most of these plants won't survive the cold.

I was fairly certain that the only way I'd be getting seedlings or plants would be either by picking them up directly, wrapping them in my cloak and hopping in a car, or waiting until times warm up. I'm in no real rush, because with the animal room at 68F fruit flies don't seem to like breeding in there. I do have a few of those domed seedling boxes all set up for seeds though. Thanks for the welcomes guys.

I'm sure I'll have a capensis to spare in the spring (if they're old enough by then, I'm not actually sure how long they take to mature...). So if you're still looking for one at that time, just let me know.

A lot of dews are foolproof: capensis, spathulata, tokaiensis and dielhlsiana. Keep looking, there are seeds being offered.

Winnipeg? No shortage of food for CP's there What's that suposed to mean?! ;D Welcome here oberon and eirual! If you want, you can post your location - it makes it easier for others to respond to your questions if we know where in the world you are growing.

Woohoo. Another Winnipeger. Is that 3 of us now?
Welcome both of you.
Oberon, if you PM me and let me know of your general location in Winnipeg, maybe we can figure out a way to get you a plant without the need for shipping. I have quite a few Drosera capensis to spare.
