Hey everyone,
my ping seems to bery happy in its terrarium, but will it go dormant in the terrarium? It gets 16 hours of light, but people say it needs shortening of light, iss it wise to pt the ping on my windowsill, it isn't the brightest window, and there is a cold draft.
or is it better to leave my ping in the terrarium? Oh the leafs are getting smaller...

What species of ping are you growing? Some Mexican pings don't need much of a dormancy, if any at all, and can basically be treated the same year round. Others, should be allowed to be bone dry in their medium combined with higher humidity levels. Mexican pings are mostly very forgiving with their dormancy periods, and some species go in and out of dormancy whenever they need to.

I don't treat my Ping. moranensis any different during winter than summer. Possibly less water, but temperature and humidity aren't much different. They are outside for the summer, and get whatever temps and humidity we get. Inside, my lights are on for 11hrs/day. They are showing good growth right now, actually, since bringing them in 2 weeks ago.

Carnivore12, can you post a pic. My P. moranensis 'A' hasn't gone into dormancy yet. Last year I left it in a south facing window for the winter, spring and summer. It flowered like crazy and divided into five plants. I separated them, sent some away, and the rest are under lights for this winter. I'd like to see what this one look like when dormant. Btw, I got mine from sdeering.

I'd say those are 'stress leaves.' My plants put out the same kind of leaves after I separated and re-potted them. Once I put the plants under a bright light in a warm place, the new leaves are once again carnivorous. Also, succulent ping leaves are usually much smaller, compacted into tighter rosettes. I have yet to see this ping truly go dormant.

Yeah thing looks totally alive, remember if you do things to the plants they WILL respond.
I will get some pics of my Pings once they're all fully sleeping, my P.agnata is dying back real fast so it shouldn't be too long

Mabudon - why is your agnata going dormant now?

man I do not know what to say! The pings go dormant around this time. If you like to get your Ping a good rest put them to sleep. Lowering the photoperiod and stop watering or decrease watering will trigger their rest time. If I were you I would put them to rest. If your pings had a short summer it is also ok to shorten their summer. This way you will exactly know when your plants are going succulent next year.

KD- it's on a windowsill, all my Pings dutifully go to sleep on seasonal cues, all I do is give them more or less water depending on their growth state- P.agnata didn't flower last year as it was still small, so I am hoping to confirm the ID this year with flowers
