I'm new here (and new to CPs), so this might sound kind of "noob"ish... But I was wondering what kind of media mixes you guys have used with success for: utricularia (terrestrial) and drosera. Also, does the soil mixture depend on the breed of sundew or bladderwort? Or are they all somewhat similar? I'm terribly sorry if there is already a post about this somewhere and I missed it. Thanks in advance!

Go with 1:1 peat and either coarse silica sand (washed) or perlite. This will work for all the bread and butter dews and utrics.

Nice! Thank you. Is there any brands I should watch out for that have fertilizer in them or anything? I think I read something on here about yellow bricks of peat from Home Depot or something...

Just buy the cheapest peat-that comes in cubes all over the place. Nothing in a "fancy" bag.

Gotcha. Thanks! I wouldn't consider bags too fancy, hehe. I rather hate them and their wasteful nature!

and if you can't find actual silica sand, use perlite and/or vermiculite OR pumice
Anything to keep the peat from compacting too fast and let some air in at the same time

Okay, thanks a lot! Would I use the same mix for my nepenthes? And how often should I change the media?

For a good starter, buy "Savage Garden" for basics on growing, propagation, media, etc. Nep's generally use a more organic medium: peat, orchid bark, charcoal, long-fibred sphagnum, etc.

Ooh okay. Where can I get this? EDIT: Okay instead of being lazy I'm going to do a search! Sorry for bothering everyone so much, haha.
