Hi folks, I was introduced to this board by Rick Keehn who I met up with yesterday and got a tour of his facilities. Those who know me know I've been into cp for a while (about 20 years now). In that time, I've grown/killed virtually every genus. I've grown a lot of plants to maturity from seed, which was the only way to do it in the old days This definitely gives you a lot of experience and knowledge about a plants growing requirements and was a lot more rewarding (growing D.regia and H.minor from seed to maturity were probably my biggest cp accomplishments!). I have dabbled in tissue culture as well while at grad school, but that went by the wayside once I graduated and didn't have access to the facilities any more (Rick got all my old tc papers). I have been a board member of the ICPS for a number of years now and was one of the founding members of the (I think) defunct Vancouver Carnviorous Plant Club. I write occasionally for CPN, mostly field trip articles. I moved to Red Deer, Alberta 4.5 years ago and started a new job, got a new house, had a new baby (well, my wife did!), so I ended up selling/giving away my whole cp collection. However, now I'm more settled and getting back into it, much thanks to some great plants Rick grows. Hopefully I'll be able to add to some of the discussions on this board! Cheers! Chris

Hey Chris!
Nice to see you here (finally). I often drive past your old place in N Van when I head over the second narrows bridge after visiting another one of our old CP buds - Lorne.

Thanks for the welcome (welcome back?) guys! Any of you that have kids know how that can throw a wrench in the hobby side of things for a while. David, you'll know Doug Fung in North Van. I remember just before moving that he was saying to just let the hobby go for a few years since he knew we were having a child soon. I didn't actually believe him until after our son was born. Yep, took a while to get back to it Good to hear that you're still in touch with Lorne. I gave him some of my more hard to obtain plants when I moved, including D.regia. If he still has it, you should make some root cuttings from it. Tom, Lloyd, definitely remember both of you guys too. Tom, I remember when you were still Tommy ;D Stephen; would love to meet up with you even just to have a look at your collection some time. 1/2 hour, so are you up in Ponoka or down around Olds? Thanks for the warm welcome folks! Chris

Thanks for the warm welcome folks! Chris I didn't know you had kids now Chris! Wow... how time flies Yes, my kids are mostly grown up now. and yes, when they were younger, I placed my CP hobby on the back burner. Now that they are out of my hair (most of the time), I can devote more time to CP, frogs and other time wasters. I've been in touch with Doug - he helps me with with supplies of fruit flies now and then. He also shot a bunch of photos of G&G carnivores (I think they're now called Exotica Nurseries) in Australia... and I posted the pics here awhile back. Again, good to see you here Chris ...good to see some more old timers like yourself and Al Bickell showing up on this forum. David

I put my hobbies on hold when my older kids were younger. In retrospect, I think I could have kept up with my hobbies and still been a good parent. Now with my youngest son, I'm keeping my hobbies fairly active. Of course you have to achieve some sort of balance. It's fun to do both.
