What do you guys think of the forum? now that you have had a few days to look at some of the features and post a bit? I would like to get a general consensis early on because I can switch it if the members would like? My next choice would likely be the style that CPUK has? Any thought? Sib

Its good, but like the cpuk forums it should have the the different plant sections. It would make the forum more organize. Thanks PS: If theres anything I can help with let me know, I would be glad to help Sib.

I enjoy this style also. However i believe you should seperate butterworts and bladderworts into two seperate sections and an introduction section is also useful.
Zac
P.S. what does the Karma number indicate...?

What do you mean introduction section? I have Butterworts and Bladderworts grouped for now to keep the board more manageable. When membership grows and more is posted, it will not take much to add boards, but any information will be lost if I have to delete inactive boards. Thanks, Sib

Any way to get email notification of replies or things like that? Otherwise I sometimes forget to check the forums.
Glad to see things are coming back up!

Is it possible to make somewhere place for sharing information about Canadian CP sellers, commercial and individuals? It's quite a problem to find where to buy, many listings are outdated and non-specific, or when to buy in case of big box stores (I never catch in the time). Ellen

I have been looking for something to be able to switch on to e-mail members who choes about threads they are following, but so far haven't found anything!
Ellen, nice to see a new face! I will make a sticky thread in the buy sell trade area, though you will find it lacking! truth be told, there just arn't many at all. The very few places that sell the odd cp usually specialize in other plants, and just happen to have come across some cp that is easy to grow. Watching the BST area expecially come spring, once people have had a chance to see what made it through winter and have devided plants, is one of your best bets for getting different plants. That plus shipping right now are the main problems! have the odd plants ready to go, but can't ship. Welcome! Sib;)

Thanks, Syble! Each of us is fighting with problem of suppliers individually, but if we can share sources - it will be much easier for everyone. I had good luck with Rareexoticseeds from Montreal on E-Bay ca, but would like to find rare plants as Cephalotus and Heliamphora, or small droseras as plants, not seeds - they dont want germinate for me. I know, this is wrong forum, just FIY, please delete or use in sources - at your discretion. Thanks.

This is an awesome forum. Like I mentioned earlier...it's something that has been needed for a looooooong time. Couple of comments: 1. The website id is a bit obscure (through no fault of anyone's)...it's just that "http://ocps.proboards78.com/index.cgi?" is a bit obscure, maybe when some coins or some benefactor comes along, a more evident address may be secured and this "http://ocps.proboards78.com/index.cgi?" can be linked to it. (ie. if available, www.ccps.ca or http://www.ocps.ca) 2. a quick summary on the intro/home page indicating the number of new and /or unread messages (CPUK has this)...because I often miss new thoughts and threads by just clicking on the bold highlighted items on the right hand of the thread...(so to be sure, there ususally is a few more new comments when you click the category and view within the sub-category). 3. I would limit blatant commercial growers using the board to advertise their wares over every single thread. A few mentions are fine, but to see over and over again, really is not the spirit of sharing ideas. Maybe only allow them to post within one new category (eg. commercial sales thread) and on the intro thread. This may be kept in check by the moderators. Personal sales and trades are fine. 4. Along the same vein, some of the "members" and their supporters diguise themselves as "hobbyists" promoting their own nursery. This had occurred on other forums (cacti / orchid) - and again the moderators had to take the necessary steps to filter and watch. Good luck and keep up the great work Syble.

Unfortunately, there are quite a few things I can't change that I'd like, like PM e-mail notification. The easiest way I find to keep up with what forums have new posts is to look at the folder icon on the Left of the screen. If the circle on it is grey, there is nothing new, if it's blue, then it's got a new post.
Also if you go to the bottom of the index page, there is an info section, it lists 10 newest posts. Unfortunately the best this has to offer also.
I have definately been doing alot of editing, there has been shall we say spill over to the edge of spam almost. It has been made mention, so hopefully, people will respect the forum and that won't be an issue anymore. But as always I will be ever vigilant, and have enlisted tom to help keep an eye out!
Thanks, Sib

I personally would like to know depth of knowledge (call it experience, involvement) of the members, like poll about provinces. Specialization, size of collection and how rare or commonly available species are grown (some of mine are noID from superstore). How frequent not too experienced (2 yrs) posts are acceptable - I don't want to downsize this forum to mostly beginners level, I know here are present very knowledgable people.

Hi ellen687, I've been taking this hobby seriously since June of 2003, having had killed a few VFT's and pictcher plants beforehand. While books have been helpful, I have found the discussion forums to be far more educational - and a whole mess of fun! I would rate myself as more than a beginner, but a far cry from being very experienced (intermediate).
