Yes, that is a Phal (Phalaenopsis or moth orchid). What I would do it cut off the flower spike, so that it doesn't spend any energy on it and try to flower again. Try to get the plant growing again before letting it flower. Good luck!

roger that mate. I will do it tomorrow morning. I think I spot a new root growing. I will have to check in the light tomorrow. But yeah....I like orchid leaves so I am not too bothered about flowers.

Hey everyone,
Here to take advantage of this discussion, my phal already bloomed and the stem is left, where do I cut it? it's sprouting new leaf very healthy, it like my window! An the secret to orchid care I have found is watering every 7 days, and every 14 fertilizer, so far it has responded beautifully to it.

I usually cut it off right at the bottom.

vraev: You're in the minority for liking the leaves better than the flowers! Most people think that orchids are not attractive out of flower. I don't think so.
carnivoure12: If your Phal is healthy, then you can either cut the spike right at the bottom, or cut it just above the third 'node' - this can encourage a branch to form. If the plant is not extremely healthy, it would be best to cut it right to the base, to try to encourage plant growth instead of flowering.

I do like the flowers. But I don't really care if its not flowering. I like the waxy leaves and kinda liek the fact of how it actually has its roots naturalistically thrown over the branches. I guess I want to try and make epiphytic displays of orchids with my neps.

I usually leave the spikes as the phal very often flowers again from the same spike. If the plant is sick (usually bad roots) I may cut it off to rest the plant.
