So i have a 3 teir grow stand that I've had for a few years now. I bought it used from a basement grower and they couldn't tell me much about it. Works fine no complaints about that. But now that I'm branching into more demanding plants, I'm wondering if I shouldn't have one of those fitted plastic covers for it? I grow a variety of dews, pings and the occasional VFT and nepenthes on it aswell as cephs and helis... the later two I would assume would much appreciate higher and more constant humidity? Any thoughts on the pros and cons? Any idea where i can get just the cover? Thanks Sib

Sib I think I have something very close to what you have but with a clear plastic cover. I sometimes use it for quarantine. I have it full at the moment with orchids pings VFTs all kinds of stuff. They work very well at holding in the humidity. For me it means I can miss watering for a few days rather than every day. It has 2 zippers in the front. I usually leav them open with the door just hanging down.
Not sure If you can just buy a cover. If you are going to run lights you could use mylar on the back and sides and greenhouse plastic on the front for a door. Otherwise you could just use greenhouse plastic and tape it where the original seems would be. I would think a new stand and cover would be the way to go if you’re not into DIY. Stephen

no thoughs on the covers syb but they are 30 bucks at good old canadian tire, im using the same one i bet, which iv never remover the cover form, it has three really lousy lights in it aswell as a fan system, it stays very warm inside, which my bical nejoys but not so much anyone else, i never though of removing the cover as i thhough i would lose humidity dramatically
im wundering on how youve lighted this growstand?? and if so do you have plants on all tiers?? as carnivours love sun i found it hard to lights all tiers without pumping to much heat inside while maintaiings high humiditylol quite the predicoment eh
hmmmm
with a cover heat tends to build dramatically exspecially with lights inside or when hit with direct sun, so id say it depends on your light source, im still learning on the humidity issue so im REALLY not a knowledgeable source but i found that my plants looked the best when blasted with sunlight and stupid high humidity lastyear outdoors
con: heat buidup, loss of visual due to high humidity, worst of all possiblitiy of DISEASES, also prob not nessecary but some sorta wind movement inside the enclosure seems to help which means more $$$

Hi Syble, I don't know if this helps but I grow with a floralight 3 tier too. I buy vented plastic covers that fit a standard black plant tray. I get them at the hydroponic stores. We have 2 big ones here in Victoria. The lids are clear plastic, about 8" high, and have two closeable vents. They are about $5 each. I grow orchids and now pings under them. Hope that helps, Deborah

Hi Syb,
I saw in that the home depot which carries these indoor greenhouses that we use sells extra covers as well. I don't know if your shelf size is the same....but you can check that out if you are still looking for one.
