Hi guys, I am scared again Reason: you guys already guessed it. The rajah. The other semi formed pitcher (CAME WITH THE PLANT WHEN I BOUGHT IT) : By vraev at 2007-05-19 it just blackened at the top lid and slowly in course of a week or so....started extending to the bottom. I cut off from half the tendril to prevent leaf from blackening as well. A new leaf is opening. However, similar to the last one: this one also seems to be small. Is this still adjustment phase?? its been 2 months. The plant at daytime faces temps of like 80 or so. At night atleast of 60 or so. considering the cold bottles, maybe like 50. What else should I do? None of the leaves seem like they are dying or anything. Growth point looks ok. Its just that it is making small leaves. I remember reading that "Highlanders like rajah grown under high temps make smaller and smaller leaves until they die. :S ". update: Here are new pics: this pic is from jun 25th or so. Today: July 26th, 2 min ago ramispina: 25th june: TODAY .. right now: that leaf on the left with the pitcher forming since like 3 weeks ago..and a new leaf has finished in front.

PS: My ramispina seems to be doing ok. Its making a nice new pitcher. Does this mean its ok highland conditions? I know that ramispina is magnitudes easier than rajah.

If anything I think the bical seems to be a bit unhappy. But, I rather prefer my rajah doing well than the bical. I guess as long as I have a single nep setup, I can't do seperate high and lows . Till then...I rather prefer my rajah doing well. I know that my ramispina is ok. As far as I know...the sign of that pitcher formation, the new leaves growing nice and bigger than older ones is healthy. but, the rajah is the one in question I guess.

I have all my highs and lows in the same set up as I have been too lazy to get everything together and finish my High. set up. My Rajah just put out 2 new pitchers this last week and my rafflesiana is starting its second in the last week as well. i dont know if its just dumb luck or if I have something good going. Of course my Rajah is absolutly tiny in comparison to yours. I'll post pics Friday as long as I can find our new camera. (wife just loves the thing, incredible pics, 10 mega pix!!!)

WOAH! thats insane dude. FRom what I read, its the smaller neps that are kinda hard to deal with. Good job! though, I would say its going to be an year or so for yours to grow big though. (Based on reads on rajah growing on other forums). Whats your mix dude? What is your temps? humidity, air circulation and so on?
thanks,
var

Temp average is 74 at night and maybe 85 during the day. My humidity is always in the mid 80s to upper 90s (right now its 99% and 76 deg) I am in the same greenhouse everyone else has from Canadian tire. I have a clip on 8 inch fan inside pointed towards the wall and up. In the bottom of the set up I have 3 seedling trays with water that have all my vfts sundews and pings. They have 3 tubes lights on them, one gro n show, a power-glo(t8) and a flora-glo(t8). My neps are hanging from the top shelf with a 2ft 2 bulb t8 fixture hanging down in the middle of them both bulbs are flora-glos bought from pets mart. All of this is on a timer that is on a 16 hr daylight cycle. I just wish I could get some good color into them with more or better light! I'll post a pic Friday! Oh and the mix is just pure LFS.

Ok heres the pics. First is temp and Huidity View of the set up from the left side. Notice the fan and where its aiming. I figure its better so as to not dry out the media! This is my teeny weeny Rajah notice the teeny weenie pitchers starting! 2 of them are new this week! I only had leaf ends before that. So it now has 6 pitchers from the 2 stems! Heres a close up of a pitcher if anyone wanted to see it! And Finally the bottom of the enclosure

Nice pics guys! Vraev usually pitchers that are forming stop growing after they get shipped... (for me anyhow) so I wouldn't worry about it! Cya

I don't know vinc.... the other plants... the bical had a semi formed pitcher that was just a little inflated tip...that finished to form a full pitcher. well.....I guess I have to wait till the next leaf opens to show me ..if the plant is doing well or not.

oooh rug! can u please tell me where to buy that 2 foot 2 tube light fixture with the wall outlet cord?? I was looking all over for it. I want to give my rajah and ramispina better light. Then, I can take out their GE gro and sho and put it back up for the bical and ventrata.

Ummmmm yeah! Anywhere! I bought everything seperate. It comes without the cord and a regular T12 magnetic ballast. I looked forever too then a buddy said just to buy an electronic ballast and swap it out. Yeah it cost a lot more but. The cord is just a lenght of wire I bought at Home Hardware and wired in. I also have a better idea but may be a little more ify. Friend said to buy the ends for the light fixtures (which cost like $3 or so) and then an electronic ballast (rated for the lights and # of lights you want to run.) Then screw the ends to a piece of plexi-glass or wood. Then wire the ballast to a safe location away from the humidity. He said he deals with the lights and high humidity with all of his aquariums and said that the regular light fixtures will only last about 1-3 years in that kind of humidity, where this other way you wont have any problems other than hiding wire!

wow....I always wanted to make something like that...but I am illiterate in building electrical stuff even though I have the theoretical knowledge. My friend said he will help me hook up this fixture I found in canadian tire that takes 2 T12/s I think but it is the "tube" power...not a wall plug. He said he can hook it up.

Thnx Lloyd. Yeah I am an electrical dummy as well but there are simple things to do when wiring. Just white on white, black on black, and green on green (ground). That fixture is a T12 fixture in the pic, but I swapped out the magnetic (T12) ballast and replaced it with an Electronic ballast (T8). Thats the only difference between a T12 and a T8 fixture. You can't use magnetic for T8 and you cant use electronic for T12 as far as I'm told.
