HI guys,
I was kinda curious about the pitcher sizes and the leaf sizes on my plants. Suddenly, the ventrata's new leaves ever since I moved it out of the nice sunlight + GE light seem to now be growing longer and elongated. Comparitively, the leaves when growing near the window were perfect, compact and small. I was randomly reading up stuff and noticed that the pitcher size apparently goes down as the light levels are low. I guess I am noticing that on both the ventrata and the miranda.
Also, my miranda's growth tip or the newest leaf tip was lying on top of the light fixture and it got burnt and became black. I notice the plant stalled and I cut off the black part. Today I noticed that the half cut growth tip is now kinda opening...so I guess its not too bad. Even all the pitchers and leaves look intact.
THe bical's new leaf shows no sign of a pitcher as the tendril is very short and looks like either : 1) Its not really enjoying the temps up there and thinks its winter 2) Another sign of the low light. The leaf seems kinda etoliated.
The ramispina is making a small pitcher on its leaf but, I am guessing once again its subject to the low light as the pitcher is still yellow to green.
Now my concern is:
- What is black death of neps? How is it caused.
- What exactly in these conditions would cause black death? I read that keeping neps extremely wet causes it. I try ot keep my bical pretty wet as it hates hitting any dry spell.
- I don't think the GE lights can cut it.I guess all that nice pitchers and so on were being caused by the bright sunlight at university last year. Any cheap affordable 2 foot fixtures you guys recommend?? ones with 2 tubes would be preferable.
thanks,
varun
