Hi guys, I think the neps are hinting at someting...but I don't understand what... The ventrata after having made like 7 inch pitchers till now.....has made its first pitcher in 2 months after my move and its move to the new nep enclousure from a window sill. Then it was also supplimented by bright sunlight and gave me the nice red pitchers. So as u can see..this new pitcher is a bit smaller than that old pitcher that I got the plant with about 9 months ago. The big pitchers started forming in spring. Now for the bical: Here is the pitcher that was forming from the plant I was expecting for it to balloon a lot more before opening. Also its almost similar or seems a bit smaller than the older pitcher on the bical....maybe it should match that size once it finishes forming. However, a new leaf forming is becoming bigger than the older ones. So, I don't know what might have triggered this: - I thought the bical and the new neps I got have a reason if they do this as they were repotted and roots disturbed. - the ventrata however, wasn't disturbed apart from chaning the light and changing the environment to more humid. Is light the reason? Or is there anything else like ventilation and stuff like that?/ thanks, varun

neps usually continue forming their pitchers after an environmental change...and one of a few things could happen-
developing pitcher turns black and dies off pitcher balloons up to full size (as were prior to location/ media change) pitcher forms a small, tinier form
I've noticed that most of the time, the last case occurs... a smaller "runt" form . Probably due to re-establishing roots, and sensitivity to a change in light and humidity conditions. Give it about 4 months and once it adapts to it's new home, he'll be a monster.

yeah lol! I notice that 1 never happens. So far 3 is what I have seen even with the new neps. Especially the bical. The ramispina....well.....I think it will take a while to pitcher. The rajah...unfortunately 1 seems to be the likely case. The forming pitcher looks like it isnt going to finish well. Thanks for the info though flytrap. The thing had me scared for a while. But, I knew that it wasn't too bad as its forming leaves and pitchers....which is normally seen if a plant is reasonabily satisfied only.

Hi Nep growers, a couple of questions again: 1) What does it mean if new nep leaves turn inwards and curl a bit? as in the newest leaf of my rajah Is it related to heat?? 2) How important is air movement or ventilation to neps in general and especially to the beloved rajah? I know some ppl grow theirs in mini coolers and I wouldn't think they are better than mine in air circulation. Atleast my enclousure is not in a vacuum and I do open it multiple tiems a day to mist inside. 3) If I do decide to get a small fan.....do I need 2 and do I need to cut holes in my enclousure to vent air in and out the other side? In that case, there will be drastic changes to humidity. The freaking stupid ultrasonic humidifier is very very minimal in an enclousure like this. I rather feel leaving open containers with water near the plant helps with humidity. thanks guys, varun

How long have you had yout rajah? Because Neps can take months to adjust to new conditions. Dont worry if its putting smaller leafs than the previous ones...the good news is that its still growing!
In nature, Neps have plenty of humid air circulation... I dont know how this is important in cultivation.
Also dont forget your rajah lives in high altitudes, so it likes cooler nights (below 20°C).

I do give it like 10C at night by using ice packs on the top shelf. Its insane to feel how much cold air can drop on the neps. hmmm....thats my worry...most ppl growing rajah's really well have them in greenhouses where there is lot of air circulation. I actually have a nice idea for doing this...I will make a new thread soon with some diagrams. I have had my rajah for a little over a month now. So its not too long in my care.
