Hi guys,
I am starting to notice that my ventrata pitchers are somehow now loosing colour (the newer ones). The newest pitcher bud is all yellow...when they were growing at my uni near the window...they were all red. The bottom of the pitcher is becoming lighter than the top...before it was evenly red.
The maxima has opened its pitcher...and guess what...its green with a few red spots here and there.
I guess the 3 GE tubes I am using are not enough.
However, I just want enough light so as the leaves are healthy. I am unable to say if I have bad leaves on the plants as I am no nep expert.
Could someone please show me a difference between leaves in low light and in high light? Some ppl say the leaves are wavy. But all my neps show that now.
Also is it possible for low light to kill a plant?
I also read that bicals need low light and people grow them under benches in greenhouses.
thanks,
vraev

x ventratas grow in bright light and in bright locations (ie. no sunshine). I've grown a ventrata at my old office with poor lighting ...and it sprouted lots of big red pitchers (I'll look through my photos when I return back home).
As for yellowing of buds... it may be too hot, low humidity, or a combination of both. My gut feeling is that your plant is just too big, and some of your older more mature stems are drooping low, and are encouraging new basal growth (ie. telling the apical main stem its' time to switch dominant growth point) - so the older points will turn yellow and eventually die off (the entire stem/ branch).
I grow my bicals in full sunlight, and have never noticed any harm. Yes, bicals are swamp dwellers living in shaded locations naturally... but our sunlight strength is short lived and seasonal.

yellowing of pitcher buds is becos of high heat as well?? wow! damn! I can't help it....the freakin house is an oven. One thing is true...the ventrata is a giant now...its just pouring over in a 6-8 inch pot...there are 6 basal shoots and one has already a blackened tip and is being replaced by a new one which sprouted in the soil. 2 others are starting to vine. I guess I iwll get them another light. Also will try to see if I can get a white cloth which I can place over the rails and wet them with distilled water. Hopefully that should cool tings down a bit.
