Hi guys, I just noticed today that the rajah pitchers are becoming "soft" like leathery. They are resting on "damp moss" all time. Is this responsible? Should i place them on like wood pieces instead? Is this a sign of a problem ? thanks, vraev PS: I am soo worried about it. The temps are horrible. Even at night, the temp is like 80 in the enclousure. Happy times for bical...bbut no so for the beloved rajah and ramispina.

What are you doing touching them all the time? Sounds a bit weird to me. Mind you, probably no weirder than me picking the moss out of the pots.

no....I was watering them before I was heading home for the weekend. So just to judge how wet the moss is and all...at the same time I was trying to feel the pitcher when I noticed it is softer than those on my ventrata. Kinda like a "soggy pitcher"

Greetings,
I wouldn't worry too much what you're seeing right now... remember that the plants were likely greenhouse grown and those plants tend to be a bit "soft" from being in such ideal conditions (lots of humidity, ideal temps, no wind and elements, etc.).
I have had this happen to virtually every nep I've purchased or obtained - the originals go south but the new growth comes in tougher and eventally the plant adapts. If you look at that nice red pitcher on the Nep diatas that I got, it's gone totally brown, but all of the new growth looks good.
Now about those high night time temps... those have to come down for the rajah or it's going to be problematic. I'm sure you'll figure something out that will work for you. For me, I have mine nearly on he cold basement floor and I get down into the 60's at night.

Well... Like I said maybe the shipping it went throught is starting to get to it... I wouldn't be too worried... All of the neps I've receive Via Post lost all there pitchers shortly after... Cya

It would suck for you if they all dried up... Stay positive I'm sure that they will be fine... Cya

I don't think they will dry up. I watered them well before coming and having been there for that period of two days....I water the neps once or twice in a week. The only issue is the intense heat there. However, tomorrow seems like ok temperatures...so hopefully they are fine.

Yeah they should be ok! If they would dry up tho my bet is the shipping... But you know that my neps pitchers are soft... I think its just the good conditions and no winds to toughen them up like Rick said... Cya
