I've heard of it used diluted as a foliar fertilizer spray.

Sorry I should have mentioned this is a medium. Schultz Orchid Mix features select Western fir bark, horticultural charcoal and a naturally occurring volcanic rock material found in the mountains of Central China where some of the world's most beautiful orchids grow. Hears a quick link homeharvest.com/pottingmixesorchid.htm

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I've used that before for my orchids. It's quite expensive. I eventually gave up on it. Some plants do Ok, others had some root deterioration. I found it seemed to encourage tons of little mites which seemed to be bad for some plants. I switched to the little ceramic balls which I mix with perlite, long fibred sphagnum or washed coconut bark depending on the plant. At Bustan's shop in Toronto, I've seen Neps do very well in the ceramic balls only. I will probably use the ceramic stuff with coconut bark (washed!) when I repot my Neps. They are cheap. but heavy so you would have to find them locally.

Good to hear. I use the ceramic for a few. Semihydro. I may have to give it a try on a nep someday if I get enough nerve.
